gokuDX7 2,871 Report post Posted June 24, 2011 The first season of HBO's new series Game of Thrones, based off the book series A Song of Ice and Fire, just wrapped up and I must say it was friggin brilliant. The story feels so real, meaning the good guys dont always win and aren't always right. It's definitely a show you guys should start watching. Season two is already in the works and apparently HBO wants to make a series that follows each one of the books...which are still being written (should be 7 in total when it's done). I could definitely see this happening with the amount of content and popularity it has. Storyline: Seven noble families fight for control of the mythical land of Westeros. Political and sexual intrigue is pervasive. The dominant families are the Houses Stark, Lannister, and Baratheon. Robert Baratheon, King of Westeros, asks his old friend Eddard, Lord Stark, to serve as Hand of the King, or highest official. Secretly warned that the previous Hand was assassinated, Eddard accepts in order to investigate further. Meanwhile the Queen's family, the Lannisters, may be hatching a plot to take power. Across the sea, the last members of the previous and deposed ruling family, the Targaryens, are also scheming to regain the throne. The friction between these clans, and with the remaining great Houses Greyjoy, Tully, Arryn, and Tyrell, leads to full-scale war. All while a very ancient evil awakens in the farthest North. Amidst the war and political confusion, a neglected military order of misfits, the Night's Watch, is all that stands between the realms of men and icy horrors beyond. 1 Sledgstone reacted to this Quote All hail piggy, king of bacon ^)^

Pchan 5,162 Report post Posted May 22, 2013 Who's keeping up with Season 3? The show just got better. Anyone wanna discuss stuff? For being a show about fantasy, dragons, mind-games, treachery and backed with critical acclaim, there aren't many posts in this topic. I'll have to d/l it at some point.. seeing as I don't pay for HBO and HBO makes it impossible for everyone to watch their shows: http://theoatmeal.com/comics/game_of_thrones

Pchan 5,162 Report post Posted April 14, 2014 (edited) 2 episodes in season 4 at the moment, I didn't see the end of last night's episode coming. Wanna discuss? Anyone? Sledge, I know you were skeptical about checking the series out but you like Vikings and it's hard for me to imagine you NOT liking this. There's nudity here and there but it's not at the forefront of what the story's about. It's incredibly political, decently gruesome and rich in cinematography or production values. Vikings is a second younger brother to Game of Thrones in that context. DX, on a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate the series up to this point? Sledgstone 8,672 Report post Posted April 24, 2017 *revives topic from 3 years ago* I'm completely current with Game of Thrones and I'm looking forward to the next season. The first 2 seasons didn't appeal to me that much. The show prides itself on being deadly serious all the time but I couldn't bring myself to take it seriously at all with the amount of pointless nudity and straight up softcore porn scenes. Some epic scene could be happening and then it'll scene transition to a market place with some woman in the foreground spreading her legs in some acrobat position with the camera spot on to her genitals. ok... and then another serious scene will happen in another episode and a few mins later theres softcore porn. huh... then theres the pointless brothel scenes. All of which felt like nothing more than filler and could all easily be skipped since the sole purpose of those scenes is for young boys to masturbate to. in the end all the nudity throughout all 6 seasons was completely pointless (save for 2 scenes), added no plot, no character depth and could all easily be skipped and the viewer would miss no plot at all. Thankfully season 3 and on became much much better. Significantly better. Someone at HBO must have realized they were making porn with a really good plot on the side and decided to do a 180 and make it a completely plot driven story full of amazing action with some nudity on the side. Another thing, its hard to have a favorite character in this series because everyone dies so often. I thought I got used to the concept of major characters being killed off at any time thanks to watching the walking dead, but in game of thrones, major characters die so often that by season 6 I just assume anyone that is left will die at any moment and leave another plot line completely negated. Even minor characters will show up in an episode, start having some build up.. and then die. lol. Its impossible to get a firm attachment to any character or even care if any of them achieve anything in the end. If TWD killed off characters like GoT, the entire original cast would have been dead by season 3 except for maybe Rick. Maybe I'm a bit more pessimistic of this series because I streamed it all in one week instead of watching it over the course of years and it changed my perspective of it. The next season looks like it'll be amazing and full of massive conflict and bloody battles. The end of season 6 was perfect. *minor spoiler* Winter is finally here.. The White Walkers and their undead army are going to kill everyone..
DeathscytheX 9,732 Report post Posted September 1, 2017 A friend of mine gave me their HBO Go log in and I've started this. I watched the first 3 episodes and I already want like 4-5 people to die. Its HBO so it has to have nudity otherwise this show could just be a regular cable TV show minus the occasional F bomb. With the limits TWD and Vikings have pushed on gore, this show hasn't really shown me much that's impressive on that front yet... I do like what I've seen, they've set up the story well and the characters are interesting to me. I should have this knocked out in a week. Quote GET A NEW FUNK ON BEFORE YOU GET DUMPED ON! Sledgstone 8,672 Report post Posted September 1, 2017 The first 2 seasons are slow and have so much pointless softcore porn nudity. Once you get into season 3 and beyond there are many episodes that have movie quality fight scenes and sets that make TWD look like its has a b movie budget. I finished up the last season this past season and it felt incredibly rushed since its coming to an end. The next season which is going to be 6 episodes or so I think is going to be the finale. If the show feels like it drags on at times its because it does. HBO kept waiting for the author of the books to make the last 2 books in the series and he kept saying he was almost done with one of them. But after 5 years of waiting on him HBO caught up to the books and actually had a sit down with him to get a rough outline of his upcoming books so they can finish the series as best they can. Which results in this last season feeling rushed as all hell and the finale will probably be 6 episodes of endless action to conclude the series. Once you finish this I highly recommend Westworld. Its a better series and its only 1 season. Highly impressive. 1 DeathscytheX reacted to this
DeathscytheX 9,732 Report post Posted September 2, 2017 Maybe I braced for too much? Everyone talks about all the nudity and sex... and I'm just like eh? Its really not that much unless season 2 ups the ante. Maybe I'm just desensitized from all the movies and others shows that have been worse? That one guy runs a whore house, and the Dothraki are just a bunch of savage brutes.. it fits the premise of the scenes. They could not be there and not change anything you're right. But I guess that's just what I expect from HBO. I'm a sucker for political drama, so I've really liked the first season so far. I'm up to ep 6. The whole Stark vs. Lannister feud is interesting to me. Quote GET A NEW FUNK ON BEFORE YOU GET DUMPED ON!
Sledgstone 8,672 Report post Posted September 2, 2017 Season 2 ups the ante with the pointless sex scenes and nudity. The political drama is the biggest highlight of the series and definitely makes it worth watching. It got to the point in season 2 that I actually fast forwarded thru 3 different sex scenes just to get to more plot. There's some other scenes that I remember lasting 5-10 mins or so that i did watch because there was talking involved but they added absolutely nothing to the plot so after that I just kept skipping them. It's a good series but it could have been great if the first 2 seasons were filmed like season 3+. The excessive nudity but not excessive sex in Westworld actually makes sense tho because of the nature of the theme park. But in game of thrones it feels like they threw the nudity in there like they were trying to be edgy or justify their 'premium' cable price. Ever since regular cable has had most of the restrictions of profanity, gore and violence removed over the years HBO keeps turning to more nudity and sex like its supposed to add something special to a product when all it does is detract from the plot and draw criticism from fans. If TWD was made by HBO we'd have had countless sex scenes and almost every female walker would have been topless for no reason.
DeathscytheX 9,732 Report post Posted September 4, 2017 I'm on ep 5 of season 3 and so far its the most boring. Although it seems to be getting more interesting. Daenerys has her army now and I like her character a lot more. Season 2 was pretty good IMO. Tyrion is by far my favorite character along with his escapades with Bronn. I'm pretty sad he's no longer Hand of the King. I loved his schemes. The wildfire boat bomb was pretty epic. But all before that, Tyrion getting KOed by the hill person's hammer and missing the whole battle was hilarious. All the conspiring between the Spider and Little Finger is probably my favorite angle going on, even though they are among the minor happenings. The thing I like about this show is how your opinion can change about certain characters from good to bad and bad to good. Everyone is relatively interesting. At first Daenerys story had me least interested, but now Snow's story is kinda eh right now. All of Night's Watch seems so ridiculous, and Snow just seems like a big fuck up in everything he does, its absurd how many bad decisions he's made consecutively, and so far he hasn't really had to pay any price for them. I haven't read the books, but it seems the show had written itself into a corner at times, and then decided they didn't like what they did and just did something else to do it, making the character impacted look out of character. Robb's decision to marry the medic girl is one of them. Stannis is a trainwreck and the fire priestess is such a weird and out of place character... the whole pregnant, shadow birth thing was bizarre and I bet it's the only time that is ever used. 1 Sledgstone reacted to this Quote GET A NEW FUNK ON BEFORE YOU GET DUMPED ON! DeathscytheX 9,732 Report post Posted October 1, 2017 So I've watched all of it and I think its an awesome show, but not the greatest thing ever. Tyrion, The Hound, and Bronn are my favorite characters. The one thing that irks me about this show is how every act of good turns into some type of folly that cascades into a next conflict. I mean they practically handed the Night King a dragon at the end. Cersei is way too predictable, as if she'd really agree to help in the war against the dead. I wish Jaime would put a sword through her and be done with it. Now we have an upcoming conflict between Snow and Dany about who is the rightful heir. With their unknowingly Jaime/Cersei type deal going, you'd think they'd just be cool with it, but nah its going to be another conflict. Seems like there is too much to resolve in the final season and we might get unanswered questions or rushed resolutions. I hope not, but we'll see. 1 Sledgstone reacted to this Quote GET A NEW FUNK ON BEFORE YOU GET DUMPED ON!
