LeeLee 140 Report post Posted May 5, 2012 Anyone else have stores participating in this? I just got back from my local comic shop where they gave away 5 free! I got a few old manga titles: Crying Freeman, Lodoss War, and Star Blazers! If you wanna know more there is a free comic book day FB page you can look up. CabbitGirl 4,018 Report post Posted May 7, 2012 i only found out about this after it passed although i'm not exactly sure if any stores in my area participated. so, even if i had known about it, i'm not sure if it would make much difference
Myk JL 1,731 Report post Posted May 7, 2012 The last time I went to a free comic book day it was only based on certain generic titles. So I skipped going to it this year. Aside from that I'm going to cut down on comics once Deadpool is Dead. I just can't take Daniel Way's writing anymore. I never find anything I WANT, but I always come away with something interesting. Free comic day in my area comes with gaming, events, and sales at my local shop. Last year they had a comic/anime costume contest. Is Dead pool the only comic you read? I don't think you should give up on comics altogether. There are plenty of amazing comics with equally amazing artists that need our support! Quote The watersprite that lives underground like a mole. Part of what waters down "Free Comic Book Day" for me is also the fact Marvel is bound every few months or so to release a free comic. Last free comic I got in April was about The Avengers & their children from the future. As for giving up on comics, its nothing I'd stick to unless nothing I want comes out. I just like my comics in a particular way. I could go from Deadpool to say Spider-Man. But I don't like being preached to that "With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility". And maybe I could substitute Lobo for Superman. But I'd probably get tired of the Man Boy Scout that Superman is. Or if there was no chance I'd ever buy a comic book again there's always lots of Free Web Comics. In fact I think I read a lot of Free Web Comics. They make up most of the comics I read on a monthly basis. I may eventually return on reading (or watching) some although in the case of one fan fic I was sick about hearing of Star Wars when I originally followed it for Deadpool. LeeLee 140 Report post Posted May 10, 2012 Well it makes sense from your point of things. I don't really have any one type of comic that I read. I read manga and american comics equally. I don't have one fandom that I focus on. I'm not so much a fan of the comic, so much as a fan of the art and story. I see free comic day as a day I can get something I wouldn't normally spend money on, and take the chance it might be something I like. Then I can go back and get more. I go mainly to support the comic. As an artist, and a lover of the printed word, I see the death of comics coming. It makes me sad. I for one plan to fight to the end!
