Get $75 to upgrade from a Xbox 360 to an Xbox One

Recommended Posts

Looks like Microsoft decided that a number of Xbox 360 owners require some nudging in order to upgrade to the Xbox One, so they’re sending a promotion that gifts them with a $75 promotional code if they purchase an Xbox One or Xbox one Bundle.

Basically, those that received the promotion will be able to get a free game and a portion of another to start out their current-gen collection.

It’s worth mentioning that, while many are reporting having received the promotion, apparently not everyone did (I sure didn’t), and that whether you already have an Xbox One or not doesn’t really matter to the possibility of receiving it. In order to check out if you’re affected, all you have to do is to turn on your Xbox 360 and connect to Live.

Umm... wow.. that seems a bit desperate to me. Its a good deal for anyone that hasn't gotten the Xbox One and was planning on it tho.

I'm planning on getting an Xbox One & PS4, but I don't see a point in losing access to all my free Xbox 360 games & other Xbox 360 games I had to buy. Its not my fault next current gen consoles also require me to invest in a new TV. I'll get these both eventually after getting a 4K TV.

Assuming I don't skip 4K TVs then wait for cheap 8K TVs.

Or after I get a Steam Machine that at least sees me settling for a 1080P TV.

360 is a great console with a huge library of games. It was MS' PS2 essentially and a lot of people are going to have a hard time letting go without backwards compatibility. PS4 has yet to lose to XB1 in monthly sales and its grinding at them. Having first dibs on BF4 content didn't help, and COD first access definitely isn't going to help... Sony locked up Destiny and Watchdog's exclusive content which has clout as they are new IPs. I can see the battle getting nasty for The Division exclusive content.

$75 is a lot. Thats a game and a few XBLA titles if you catch a good sale. You're basically getting a game with your console, and its your choice. Its a good marketing strategy by MS, but it shows the state of the console race. They were greedy as hell last gen because they could be, now that has all changed.

Or that's at least 24 Games via 1 year of Games With Gold & some left over for DLC.

If you're going to get both consoles at some point, I'd recommend getting a 1080p tv. Both the Xbox One and PS4 will only support 4k movies and not games from what I've read. Which means any 1080p games played on a 4k tv will look like crap IMO. Have you seen what a PS2 or Gamecube looks like on a HD tv? The higher resolution is not flattering for those old systems because it shows more of the flaws in the quality. I have FF7 for PS3.. not the remastered better graphics FF7 thats on Steam.. nope, its the original PS1 classic. I have never seen pixels so large before. lol.

      https://blog.playstation.com/2022/03/29/all-new-playstation-plus-launches-in-june-with-700-games-and-more-value-than-ever/
PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now are merging into the new PlayStation Plus and the membership will now become a tiered system:

I'll be sticking with PlayStation Plus Essential assuming I can still buy yearly memberships on sale for around $30-$40 like I've been doing since before the PS4 launched. I'm barely getting any use out of PS+ as it is with the games they've been offering for the last year so if I have to start paying a monthly fee I'll just cancel it instead.
In comparison to the PS+ Extra, I've recently used Xbox PC game pass which I got a 3 month trial for $1 on black friday weekend last year. I don't have an Xbox so I was only using the lowest tier of the PC version which I suppose is the Microsoft Xbox PC version of PlayStation Plus Extra. It is an ok service but with the amount of time I have to dedicate to gaming I was only able to play and beat 2 games in those 3 months. I'm glad the xbox pc game pass came with EA Access since I was able to play and beat Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. EA Access itself didn't appeal to me because on the PC game pass its basically 70% sports titles. I was also able to play and beat Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus and that game wasn't nearly as good as the first. Both games retail for around $14 and $7 when on sale so I saved roughly $20 with my $1 free trial. But if it was to pay $10 a month for the service I would have been in the hole $9 compared to if I bought those 2 games instead. For me and my available time to play games a subscription service is not a savings to me. Theres alot of people that could benefit from a game subscription service and I'm glad its an option for them.
I will say tho, for people that have an Xbox console and a game subscription service is beneficial to them, the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has console and pc game pass combined along with xbox games with gold free monthly games, and that is a far better deal that PlayStation Plus Deluxe for the same price of $14.99 a month. The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate also includes console and pc games that can be played from the cloud too kind of like Nvidia's GeForce Now streaming.

Steam has made its own hand held game console. It can be used as a handheld or docked to a tv like the Nintendo Switch. Honestly, this looks like a solid hand held. Everyone that does PC gaming has a steam account and most likely alot of games already in their library.
There are three versions: $399, $529 & $649 depending on the internal storage. Its shipping December of 2021.

      The hardware looks great too:

The new PlayStation 4 firmware update will include external HHD support for game installation. Finally. I honestly didn't realize the original PS4s even had USB 3. They are also finally adding custom wallpapers via screenshots. About damn time. The wallpapers in the online store are complete garbage. I'd still prefer to use my own .jpg files like on the PS3, but modders used that feature as a way to hack the system which is why we never got the functionality in PS4. Using a screenshot is completely fine with me.

I haven't been following Xbox products and I was surprised to see this one. I thought it was the new upgraded Xbox.. it is but it isn't. It's basically the Xbox One Slim. Its 40% smaller, larger hard drive, 4k bluray player and HDR video. Theres still another upgraded Xbox coming out in the near future that should allow 4k gameplay. This slim version is what I envisioned the initial Xbox One would have been. But instead they released that mandatory camera system with it and refused to make bluray movies play on the system unless you download an app. Probably because sony owns bluray tech. The Xbox One S came out just yesterday and now I'm wondering how much longer it'll be before we see a PS4 slim and if it'll have extra features.
