Ladywriter 7,783 Report post Posted January 1, 2007 I didn't bother with FF11; I'm not into the whole play online thing and I do not play well with others ever so I waited for 12. I just finished the game tonight and here's my buck 20 (2 cents just aint gonna cover what I got to say) yay a camera that moves boo killin dark chocobos characters....eh what the hell point was there to Vaan and Penelo? All they were was rabble with a beating stick and had no real perpose in the game >.< Balthier and Fran were the best characters, they had the most defined personalities. Ash and Bash had serious goals. All the judges sounded like they were talking through a toilet paper roll into a bucket the world and the airships looked great in game and in cut scenes but the characters all looked like shit. In game their faces (espically the eyes) looked smudgy; totaly crapified. In cg scenes they looked like claymation. The hair looked terrible, like sculpted clay not hair. Sorry but the cut scenes in X and X2 put 12 to mad shame. Yuna had hair not plastic or clay The plot was a bit slow but the side quests were pretty good. 12 is on par with 8 but falls way short of 10 in plot, characters and graphix. I was thinking after a real masterpiece like 10 that 12 would have awsome scenes and characters. I was disapointed. the only good looking shit in 12 was the airships. Sledgstone 8,672 Report post Posted January 20, 2007 Yeah, Vaan and Penelo seemed pointless in the game. Vaan stuck around because he had the shard, but once that was gone I saw no real purpose for them to continue on the adventure with Ashe except for maybe loyalty to the throne.. but they didn't emphasize it in the slightest. And Penelo pretty much said: "wherever Vaan goes, I'm going too." okay... yeah.. There was no backstory to either of those characters, except that Vaan's brother served in the army and was murdered. Balthier and Fran were the best characters and they hinted at Balthier's past repeatedly in the game. He was the single character with the deepest plotline and most personality. Basch was a good character too but he was really nothing more than a sword for Ashe. And maybe if they put more emphasis on Vaan wanting to be Balthier's sky pirate apprentice, it would have made more sense for Vaan to continue traveling with them. I always thought it was funny when anyone in the game referred to them as Vaan's group.. when Vaan was the second most pointless character in the game next to Penelo. I did like the graphics in the game and the fact that so many characters and enemies could be in an area with a moveable camera must have really pushed the PS2 capabilities to its limits. The character models did need some work tho. Aside from Basch, their costumes and Fran's ass, the entire party was pretty ugly. The rest of the in game models were pretty slick, most enemies and the airships looked bad ass and the chocobos looked awesome too. but, I am highly disappointed in the summons. They were about as useful as the summons in Kingdom Hearts 1. they never got more powerful and they were pointless in boss fights because they were often killed in just a hit or two. Dogmatix 735 Report post Posted January 21, 2007 Yup... I guess the fact that I haven't even finished the game yet, pretty much tells all for me. I finished X in exactly two weeks, and X2 in one. 12... well, I hung out in the store to get that one right away. The plot's been a little weak for me. I haven't been pulled into it yet at all. And about the cut scenes... X and X2 were definitely better from what I've seen so far, at least content-wise. I've got one more city to open up on the map, but I was wondering. Is there any place where you can view the cut scenes like in X/X2 at Luca? Cause, if there isn't, that'll suck even more. Although, in the end, I was really attatched to X, so XII would've had to been freaking awesome to have made me as happy as X did. I just hope there's better luck with 13. Sledgstone 8,672 Report post Posted January 21, 2007 I think the developers spent all their time and money on the battle system, gambit ai, monster interactions and the entire environment instead of putting money into a solid script. To me, it was if the whole purpose of FF12 was to make people get used to a real time battle system/mmorpg environment so they could maybe hook more fans onto FF11. I don't understand why every FF has to have a completely different battle system. Back in the day every FF battle system had the same primary elements, enemies separated on one side, your guys on the other. and they kept improving on it all the way up to FFX where it hit the limit of what that battle system can do.. I still think they could have kept the same battle system from FFX and made multiple final fantasy games based off of it's style. They would have more money for plot development, etc instead of pumping cash into programming and designing an entirely new system and the games would have probably sold like hot cakes. Ladywriter 7,783 Report post Posted January 21, 2007 I havent found anything to review the cut scenes. I was doing sidequest crap but.... eh...lame and annoying I put the game on the shelf and went back to playing X for the twenty-something time. (but I found myself trying to move the camera ) 12 had great graphix for the enviroment but the charas were pretty dogass ugly. >< Quote Look at the flowers
