Silver Fang 100 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 It's no secret that Kakashi favored, and cared the most for, Sasuke. But, from looking at things, doesn't it seem like Sasuke is the only one Kakashi cares for? It just seems like he didn't really care anything about Naruto. He didn't really interact with Sakura much either, but I just assumed it's because she's a girl, and kind of fragil, so Kakashi doesn't know how to deal with, or approach her. I don't just mean training, but treatment in general when it comes to Naruto & Sasuke. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

Silver Fang 100 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 Yeah. Don't get me wrong, I love Kakashi. He's my favorite character, but sometimes, I find his behavior questionable or out of line. For example, he trusts, and cares for, Sasuke enough to teach him Chidori, but he later criticizes Jiraiya for teaching Naruto Rasengan. I understand him teaching Sasuke Chidori, I mean, I think there were other options, but I guess Kakashi taught him Chidori to protect him. I don't mind that. But why would he not want Naruto learning Rasengan to protect him from the Akatsuki. Naruto needed protectiion, same as Sasuke, so why was Kakashi against him? Sledgstone 8,672 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 I agree with you on that point. It didn't make sense to me either for why Kakashi would criticize Jiyra for teaching him something powerful. It was one thing back when he saw Lee bust out a gate release move and criticized Gai for teaching him a forbidden jutsu. But Naruto did need a power move to keep himself safe. Kakashi is my favorite. btw, how far are you in the series? and do you read the manga?

But, I think Kakashi waas also out of line for saying anything to Gai about teaching Lee gates. It wasn't any of his business what Gai teaches his student, so he had no right to say anything. I mean, Kakashi gets an attitude and tries to burst people's b***s when they criticize the way he handles his students, but it seems, all he does is criticize other teachers. He can dish it out, but he can't take it. I mean, Gai had a very important reason for teaching Lee Gates, and he tells Kakashi what that reason is after Kakashi criticizes him. Kakashi spoke out against Gai before he had all of his facts straight, or before he had all of his facts period. Which was why I was happy when Gai snapped on Kakashi and told him why he did it, because Kakashi shut up then, and realized he was wrong to speak out against Gai for something he knew nothing about.Sorry if I sound harsh, but I was really dissapointed with Kakashi for criticising Gai. He was out of line there. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sledgstone 8,672 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 Yep. I just wish Kakashi got more manga/anime time in the latter half of the series. Ladywriter 7,783 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 If you're not current in the manga you prolly dun wanna read if ya can remember wayyyyy back to the beginning... Sasuke/Sakura/Naruto were the first genin to pass his bell test and become his students. Within a year Kakashi found himself in (his hero) Sarutobi hokage's position; a student goes whack and takes off. Kakashi had Uchiha issues to begin with because of Obito and the eye. He had Naruto issues because he's Yondime's kid with a monster inside. The only one Kakashi didnt have some kinda mental hang up with was Sakura- whom he couldn't shove off on Tsunade fast enough once the boy-o's were gone training with sannin. Chidori isnt a forbidden jutsu, opening the life gates is. I also think Kakashi is aware of a Gai Lee connection still left unsaid in the series ie they are related by blood somehow. Just look at the fuckers for chrissake. Look at the flowers
Kite 3,263 Report post Posted February 14, 2009 the gates almost killed rock lee, the rasengan that naruto learned was a piss weak form of what it could be kakashi knew what rasengan could evolve into, knowing this and narutos tendancy to jump the gun on it, well makes sence, also with the kyubii inside him, it wasnt wise for naruto to push so hard so fast without fully understanding the kyubii, which he didnt at that time and kakashi would die a thousand times in place of his students, so knowing gai taught lee a double edged move is something he wouldnt do. thats just my guess Bruce Campbell: '' This place has more security then the Batcave ''

So, he can't sit around and wait for that. Naruto is a bit immature, so that may have been why Kakashi didn't trust him, but Sasuke is immature as well. So apperently Kakashi thinks highly of Sasuke, and Naruto, not so much. I mean, Sasuke is a kid whose whole life revolves around power, vengence, and being better than his teammates. Kakashi seems to encourage this behavior. So from loooking at things, Kakashi cares about what happens to Sasuke, but doesn't care about Naruto being captured, and killed, by an evil gang of ninja, since he didn't want Naruto learning a jutsu that could help him. Sledgstone 8,672 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 Maybe Kakashi knew that regardless of what may happen in Naruto's life, he'll be ok because he has that way of making friends and overcoming all odds. But maybe Kakashi also figured that if he spent more time with Sasuke he could save Sasuke from his lonliness and despair by being more of a role model for him. Silver Fang 100 Report post Posted February 15, 2009 In terms of treatmeant, I think Kakashi spoiled Sasuke, and neglected Naruto. If you need further elaberation, then just tell me, and i'll explain what I mean. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
gokuDX7 2,871 Report post Posted February 16, 2009 It's very simple to understand really. Sasuke resembled Kakashi when he was a kid (kakashi says this a few times throughout the series). There's also the fact that Obito was an Uchiha so Kakashi instinctivly formed a stronger bond with Sasuke becuse of his haritage. The diffrence between Kakashi teaching Chidori to Sasuke and Jiyra teaching Naruto Res was probably the fact that Kakashi was a bit jelouse that J tought it to Naruto without his permission. Sure it sounds like a stupid reason but both Kakashi and J had a strong connection with Naruto's dad so they both feel they have some kind of influence over what Naruto can and can't learn. In a sence they both are acting as Naruto's Dad. This is why must later on you see Kakashi and J alwase conversing togeather before sending Naruto off the train. If anything Kakashi has a stronger bond with Naruto now then Sasuke. Sakura and her parents never had real ties to Kakashi so it's obvious he kind of ignored her. I don't blame Kakashi for criticizing other teachers about what they teach their students. I think it's good. If someone didnt do it then teachers all over the village would be teaching forbidden moves without fealing any remorse or shame. Silver Fang 100 Report post Posted February 17, 2009 (edited) Just so some know, I am current with Shippuden. People always wonder if i'm current on things since Kakashi trained Naruto in Shippuden. I admit Kakashi did help Naruto in Shippuden, which is good, and Kakashi seems to have alot of faith in Naruto (saying he can surpass the forth), but Kakashi's attitude seems a bit fake to me. I just asumed Kakashi stuck with Naruto, in Shippuden, for two reasons. Those two reasons are the lack of Sasuke and embarrassment. Let me elaberate. If Sasuke were still in the village, I don't think Kakashi would be training Naruto. I think he'd find other reasons to stick with Sasuke and not train Naruto, like teaching Sasuke more about Sharingan and Chidori. Then embarrassment. Think about it. When Sasuke was around, Kakashi spent all of his time on Sasuke. He asumed that just because Sasuke was a bit "like him" that he'd change and turn out like him. He devoted most of his time, confidence, and love to Sasuke. He had all this confidence that Sasuke would be this great ninja, and trusted him enough to teach him Chidori. Even though Sasuke is a power hungry arrogant kid whose whole life is about power, vengence and being better than everybody. So, Kakashi took a gamble in teaching Chidori to someone like Sasuke, because Sasuke was bound to mis-use that power eventually. But, Kakashi thought he could change him, he had enough confidence in Sasuke to be willing to take that gamble. Now we have Naruto, the "flunky." Kakashi obviously didn't trust Naruto to the extent that he trusted Sasuke. Naruto is the one Kakashi underestimated. He didn't seem to hold Naruto as highly as he held Sasuke. He also didn't seem to think Naruto was as good as Sasuke. Since he thought Sasuke was trustworthy enough to handle Chidori, but tells Jiraiya that Naruto couldn't be trusted with Rasengan. So, Sasuke is the one Kakashi put most of his money on, and Naruto was the one he didn't trust too much. Then in the end, Sasuke (his golden boy) was the one that attacked a comrade, and abandoned Konoha to train with a traitor. So, in the end, Naruto proved to be the more mature and loyal student. So Kakashi is ashamed that he didn't see that earlier, and that he invested all his money on the student that had no problem ignoring his teachings, and running away. I say this because, in Shippuden, Kakashi is all over Naruto. He's telling Naruto how proud he is of him, and that he loves him, and that he can surpass Yondaime. Where was all this confidence and love in part one? In part one, Kakashi didn't take a second glance at Naruto. Now, all of a sudden, he loves him. I mean, why'd it take Kakashi so long to see how great Naruto was? Tsunade, Jiraiya, Iruka, Sandime, even Gamabunta (after one afternoon of knowing him)& Gamakichi saw Naruto had wonderful potential. But for Kakashi, it takes three years with no Sasuke to notice Naruto, or so it seems. Now, Kakashi fans, don't get offended. I love Kakashi, and i'm a big fan of him, but as a mentor (to Naruto anyway), I don't think he handled him very well. You'd think he'd take to Naruto right away considering Naruto acts alot like Obito, whom Kakashi claims was his best friend. Kakashi isn't a bad teacher, but he isn't really cut out to be a team leader. He's more suited to be a private instructor. He could've become a private tutor, and taken Sasuke on as a private student, and Naruto could've gone to another sensei, like Gai. True Gai already had a team, but i'm sure one extra wouldn't hurt. Sledgstone 8,672 Report post Posted February 24, 2009 Silver Fang, I think you may be over analyzing it. In my opinion, I think the guy that writes Naruto has done a shit job with the majority of his character development over the course of the entire series. But yes, I see a bit of what you're talking about with Kakashi, but at the same time, team 7 was Kakashi's very first group of genin to teach. Maybe he figured Sasuke needed the extra attention to work better as a team mate seeing as he might have had more confidence in Naruto and Sakura to be able to help each other. eh, but then again Sakura was completely useless in the beginning of the series. *shrugs* Like I said, I think it was all bad character development from the beginning. I don't think so. I see what you're saying, it may seem like i'm nitpicking, I apologize. But, to me, these things were just always self-evident to me. I understand that Team 7 was Kakashi's first batch of students, but he did a pretty poor job. Like during the Chunin exam, I think he could've trained both Sasuke and Naruto if he really wanted to, he just didn't. He gives Naruto to Ebisu to work on his basics. If he knew Naruto's basics were bad, why would he wait until right before the final rounds to say something. It seems like he wanted to wait until he was able to pawn Naruto off on someone so he wouldn't have to do it himself. So, with that, it seemed like he didn't have much faith in Naruto to beat Neji in the first place. Because I doubt just the basics would be enough to defeat Neji. In fact, I think it's clear that Kakashi thought Naruto couldn't beat Neji, because earlier, when he was watching Neji fight, he says "Even as strong as Sasuke is, he's no match for Neji." and Kakashi obviously has a higher opinion of Sasuke than Naruto, so i'm sure he didn't think Naruto could win. With Naruto, Kakashi just seemed negligent, and didn't take anything involving Naruto to heart. Not just Naruto, he messed up with Sakura as well. He was too soft on Sakura. Compare the way he talks to Sakura, to the way he talks to Naruto. He's never hard on her, and he never gets attitude with her, like he does with Naruto. Sakura is someone the needs a mentor to be hard on her, or she won't try, or get any better. Kakashi just ignored Sakura, and let her do whatever she wanted. He never disciplined her. So, she didn't improve until she worked under Tsunade. To be honest, the only one Kakashi ever came down on was Naruto. He never did that with Sakura, or Sasuke. Pre-timeskip, Kakashi just seemed like a lazy teacher that doesn't really want to put forth real effort, unless he has no other choices. gokuDX7 2,871 Report post Posted February 26, 2009 Pre-timeskip, Kakashi just seemed like a lazy teacher that doesn't really want to put forth real effort, unless he has no other choices. You can thank Obito's death for this. So with what you said we can assume that Kakashi originally couldn't teach anything to naruto because he didn't know the basics. Kakashi probably thought that it would be best to have him train with Ebisu since he's an expert in dealing with little kids (Naruto's personality was that of a little kid and had a short attention span). Theres also the possibility that Kakashi is looking out for the village and trying not to teach Naruto anything to powerful that would put the village or his fellow team mates in danger becuse of the 9 tails in him. He might have been training Sasuke figureing that if Naruto ever went out of control in the future, Sasuke would be there to stop him...this kind of back fired though since Sasuke is now the enemy and Naruto is the one trying to stop him . I agree that Kakashi ignored Sakura. She was basicly usless at the get go and I think he knew that. It wasnt like he could teach her medical jitsu anyway so he probably figured he'd let her choose what to do. All hail piggy, king of bacon ^)^
Pchan 5,162 Report post Posted February 27, 2009 First of all, why assume that everyone has to be trained to be superhumans? I mean look at the generation of Kakashi or Shizune ... why're they so weak, why haven't we seen anyone outstanding or why are there only 3-4 teachers who're decent powerful vs everyone else in freggin Konoha which is the strongest or among the strongest of villages? This isn't a flaw in character or Kakshi, it's a flaw in the storytelling. I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do. Sledgstone 8,672 Report post Posted February 28, 2009 I think its interesting that out of the entire village and its numerous clans large enough to consume entire districts and gene pools, that the entire series only focuses on a few teachers in the beginning, and then pretty much cuts everyone out in the later half of the series. It reminds me of all those filler episodes and the never ending ninja Naruto and everyone kept running into. Technically, with the size of Konoha, they could run into a completely different ninja with completely different abilities or potential in every chapter... but they don't bother revealing anything deeper within Konoha except for Sai. Hes been a member of Konoha for a long time and even the regulars didn't know who the hell he was and were dumbfounded by his abilities. You'd think there would be all kinds of badasses in Konoha that have never been utilitzed. eh.
