Kite 3,263 Report post Posted March 18, 2009 to me sounds like ST: voyager set mainly on a ship, and focusing on inter relation ships, as well as meeting new aliens, theer avoiding having a single bad alien race, and will be set on a starship for the most part: from wikipedia to me i will watch it, but i think it has already lost the point of stargate, as they wont be using stargates really, once SG1 introduced starships, it kinda drifted away from the original plot hope this series isnt a star trek voyager, Concept and setting Stargate Universe was conceived as "a completely separate, third entity" in the live-action Stargate franchise[4] – as opposed to Stargate Atlantis, which was created as a spin-off from the first series Stargate SG-1. Stargate Atlantis producer Joseph Mallozzi stated that Universe aims to "delight veteran fans, but also appeal to newcomers who may not necessarily know the difference between an Alteran and an Asuran", and that it is "in many ways [...] a much more cerebral and mature addition to the franchise. While firmly entrenched in pre-established Stargate mythology, Stargate Universe definitely strikes out in an exciting new direction."[5] The new show will be more serialized than its predecessors.[6] Like the first two series in the franchise, Stargate Universe will take place during the present time, not in the distant future.[4] The show will be set on an Ancient ship, the Destiny, that was part of an Ancient experiment to seed the galaxies with Stargates millions of years ago. A second ship would follow up and explore, using the ninth and final gate chevron (whose purpose was previously unknown) to get to the first ship, but the Ancient experiment was prematurely ended by the Ancients' ascension.[7] A team of soldiers and scientists from Earth step through the Stargate to find the Destiny (which has a Stargate onboard)[8] after their base is attacked. As it is impossible for them to return to Earth, they must fend for themselves aboard the ship as it takes them to the far reaches of the universe.[9][10] The writers have discussed the possibility that each season represents a voyage of the Destiny through a different galaxy.[11] The show will be more relationship-based and more arc-driven[12] and will involve more space-based action than SG-1 or Atlantis.[9] "Survival and sacrifice" were the two main themes that were discussed at the preliminary script stages of the show.[13] Stargate Universe will be "a lot darker" than the previous Stargate series, beginning with three major deaths in the pilot episode and having one suicide by episode six,[14] although humor will remain part of the franchise.[15] The show will focus mostly on the people aboard the ship instead of planet-based exploration,[12] and will "hopefully explor[e] the truly alien, and [avoid] the rubber faced English-speaking one" according to Brad Wright.[15] A single dominant villain race like on SG-1 and Atlantis will not be featured.[15] Bruce Campbell: '' This place has more security then the Batcave ''
