Ladywriter 7,783 Report post Posted September 20, 2009 We've had 30 years of stagnation when it comes to fuel economy. Our environment deserves better! Tell the EPA and Department of Transportation (DOT) that we need strong clean car standards. -> http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AFP51/zJRw/ANR12 In May, President Obama announced new fuel economy standards with a goal of 35 miles-per-gallon by 2016. This change would deliver a lifetime savings of nearly 2 billion barrels of oil and reduce global warming pollution by almost 900 million tons! The EPA and DOT are finalizing a proposal for how to implement these new standards. And that's where we need your help -- we can't let the loopholes that helped to create the current environmental predicament continue. Tell the EPA and DOT that they must not undermine the new standards with the same kinds of loopholes that have plagued us for decades. Act now. -> http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AFP51/zJRw/ANR12 Thanks for taking action! Samer ThePetitionSite P.S. Past loopholes allowed automakers to reclassify cars as "light trucks" to decrease fuel economy requirements and incorporate weight thresholds to allow gas guzzlers like the Hummer to evade all fuel economy regulations. Myk JL 1,731 Report post Posted September 20, 2009 I still miss the Ford Ranchero... Even though I saw one yesterday... They stopped making those after 1979... All the the Chevy El Caminos from 1978-1987 just... sucked... Those who fight deplorables should see to it that they themselves do not become deplorables.
