Ladywriter 7,783 Report post Posted October 18, 2009 Sea ice in the Arctic is disappearing as global warming causes climate change. Less ice will extend the shipping season, putting marine animals into more frequent contact with ships while they migrate. Demand stricter shipping regulations to protect Arctic wildlife! >> http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AFQn./zJwr/ANR12 More shipping will also introduce invasive species and increase the risk of oil spills. Who's in danger? Beluga whales will be disturbed in the Bering Strait between Alaska and Russia where they share a narrow corridor with ships. Polar bear cubs and seal pups are also in particular danger from oil spills. In our fight against global warming, we need to take a preventative approach. Reducing the effects of climate change will not happen overnight, so in the meantime, we must adjust to the hazardous conditions that put our most valuable wildlife in danger. Urge Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar to impose stricter shipping regulations in the Arctic >> http://www.care2.com/go/z/e/AFQn./zJwr/ANR12 Thank you for take action to protect polar bear cubs and other marine animals in our Arctic environments.
