Report reply Strider Hiryu 2,704 Posted March 12, 2010 I had a laugh at this, only because I didn't really think most of the tomatoes in the US came from Florida (plus my roommate pointed it out first thing last week when we were in Wendy's). Share this comment Link to comment
Report reply Sledgstone 8,672 Posted March 13, 2010 At least they had tomatoes that day. My jr. bacon cheeseburger wouldn't have tasted right without a tomato on it. Share this comment Link to comment
Report reply gokuDX7 2,871 Posted March 21, 2010 If only fast food chains bought from local farms when in season :/. Wal-Mart does that now and it seems to be working out great. Share this comment Link to comment
Report reply Dubird 6,815 Posted March 24, 2010 Season has nothing to do with it, it was Snowmageddon and the recent cold snap that did it. Poor tomatoes! Share this comment Link to comment

Report reply Ladywriter 7,783 Posted March 31, 2010 Season meant snow as opposed to rain. Had it been rainageddon we would be dealing with flood damage and mold/fungus damage to food crops. And yes, food is grown year round in warmer states. Winter weather like this is a threat to our food supply. We are in an El Nino; warmer air produces more energy and when this warm moist air collides with cold we get heavy precipitation events which is just what snowmageddon was. This effect has been amplified by the more severe temps that are related to a changing climate. More heat = more energy = higher precipitation events Get used to it. We've managed to unleash the hell hound; methane, and its only going to get worse. I'll stay 680 ft above sea level thanks We know how to plow snow 'round here. Share this comment Link to comment
