My first ball I had to have a thumb insert because the dude wasn't very good at what he did when he drilled it for me. I found a better guy who did really good work, and he did it for fun rather than the first guy that owned the shop at the bowling alley. I'd have to use an insert on those balls now because my thumb is no longer swollen to that size from constant bowling.

Thumb inserts are still uncomfortable to me either way.

I agree.. I'd still get a sore thumb at the end of the day. but that pop sound was hilarious. It was like I was popping a champagne bottle every couple minutes. Those thumb saver little sleaves that you put over your thumb sucked even worse. It wouldn't stop the rubbing and I had one that gripped too good and kept sliding off into the thumb insert.
