I watched the first episode. The show does seem interesting. If it focuses on Da Vinchi's search for the book of leaves as well as his crazy machines / weapons he'll be building, then it could be an entertaining show. I didn't much care for the sexual content tho... I saw an old man penis... *shudder*

Defiance - Current Episode Discussion
Sledgstone replied to Sledgstone's topic in Movies, TV & Books
Well I guess I was wrong. I read somewhere that season 2 was already set back before the first episode aired.. Maybe it was, I'm not certain, but season 2 was officially renewed a couple days ago: http://www.deadline.com/2013/05/syfys-defiance-renewed-for-second-season/ -
Has anyone watched this yet? I was hesitant to watch it because the initial trailer looked like teenagers and twilight crap.. but no.. quite a bit different. Watch this trailer instead: It was a good series. Aside from a few episodes involving the high school, this entire series is all about death, drugs, sex, mystery and the supernatural. Its not the best series I've ever seen of course, but being only 13 episodes its a quick watch. Also, I was surprised by the content.. some scenes had breasts, sex, lesbian love... surprising for me to see that on netflix, especially seeing as this is a show made by Netflix themselves.

Almost done with Tomb Raider. I wanted to finish it before I moved onto another game. So much fun.

I loved it. I think its one of the best single player games I've played in years. GW2 looks like it has good potential.. but the controls are drastically different from GW1. I got into a demo during a free weekend, impressive looking game, but I think it'd probably play better with a controller considering the amount of moving and dodging involved.

I doubt they could.. As it is, there are only 2 launch windows a day and when NASA was running the space shuttle program, it usually took them about 2 or 3 days to get into the same orbit as the space station for docking. I have no idea what the time frame is like with the Russian space program, but even if they could get to the ISS on the same day they launched, all the prep work involved in getting a rocket ready for a rescue mission would take too long, at least a day.. by the time anyone gets up there, everyone will probably be dead. x_x

Windows 8 might be saved and changed by Windows Blue
Sledgstone replied to Sledgstone's topic in Science & Technology
Have you ever used Ubuntu? I remember using it years ago. It has a lot of potential. At the time I used it tho, it was not nearly as user friendly as Windows. I wanted to do something simple like install a codec so I could watch some anime on it.. on windows all I had to do was download a file, double click it, it auto installs, done. Ubuntu was some stupid list of commands I had to enter after downloading the file.. it was so un-user friendly I said to hell with it. Although, I do have to admit, that OS auto recognized every piece of hardware in that custom PC and auto installed all of the latest drivers and files without any input from me. After installing the OS, it was as if I had just picked the computer up at the store because all the software was there and ready to use. I have no interest in learning linux commands or how to become a linux user. However, if a company could polish all these things up, have the software already installed on PC's along with a much better version of Wine (lets you run windows programs on linux), then Linux could definitely be a major player in terms of OS. It makes sense why Steam would want linux powered machines. Aside from the un-user friendly aspects of the OS it is a completely viable solution. The main things holding linux back is itself. Just like phpBB, there is IPB. Instead of using a free forum software, I'd rather pay for a more complete system. Thats how Ubuntu is.. everyone would rather pay for Windows because its complete and supported by all developers instead of using a free system. If a company started selling Ubuntu or a better version of linux and offered full support for it, more companies would probably start using it. But as soon as someone starts trying to sell linux, all the people that support it for free would probably rage all over the place. So yeah, I agree that linux probably wont step up.. but maybe google will make something. I believe they are going to make a Google Chrome OS at some point.- 18 replies

I played the Fuse demo. It was decent, but for a 3rd person shooter, I'd rather stick with playing Defiance. I liked the black hole gun, it was fun to use, but unless you get enough rounds off to initiate a black hole, I don't see how the gun actually does much damage. Especially against those 2 bosses in the second half of the demo. I did like the fact that I could switch to any of the four characters by holding the select button and choosing. I was able to try out all the characters in one play through. The sniper fuse gun didn't seem to have any real fuse powers that I could see.. the red head's crystalizing scatter gun was nice, but it had ridiculous range. I liked being able to throw a med pack thing that auto revives team mates in it's range. But I didn't like playing as her, because when she died I had to wait on someone to run over and revive me. The mag shield works, but that gun didn't make any sense to me. I could whip it out and shield myself and my team mates, but the AI didn't take advantage of it. I'd start shielding and the AI just kept running around doing whatever instead of standing next to me and shooting through the shield. I was able to use a pulse attack with the shield, but after a blast or two, it took forever to recharge. All I could do was switch to a regular rifle to do any damage. I was surprised how much of a support role that guy was. The character models are a bit dated, but while playing the game its not noticeable. It was for the most part fun. I did like being able to crouch behind objects and stay crouched while walking around those objects. Taking cover works and this is one of the few games that actually puts out a fire on your body if you start rolling around. I'll pass on this game in the end tho, I have way too many others to play right now. I want to play the newest God of War, but I have no interest in spending more than $20 for it. The last one was a quick game and the more GoW focuses on gore the less interested I am in it.

The thought of being in space and having to deal with a scenario like that is terrifying.

Now that you mention it, that would be pretty fun. Playing this game online with my brothers would be like reliving the old TMNT arcade days.

EA Secures Exclusive Rights to Make Star Wars Games
Sledgstone replied to DeathscytheX's topic in Video Games
Ah! I see what you're saying. That seems understandable then.. the only thing I never understood is why these games even bother starting off with a subscription model. Honestly, every game that has a monthly fee makes me think I'll have to keep paying them forever or they'll delete my characters once I decide to stop playing for 6 months. I'd hate having to start all over just because I didn't want to pay for a game I wasn't playing. I don't know if thats how it is with MMOs these days or not. Considering many MMOs now have some free to play options or free to play up to a certain level, I'm assuming they'll save people's accounts in the hopes they'll come back to play again. How is it with TOR? If you stopped paying your subscriber fee and stopped playing for months, would your account get tossed off their servers?- 25 replies

http://news.cnet.com/8301-10805_3-57583262-75/whats-new-about-windows-blue-faq/ I've only used Windows 8 for about 10 minutes while setting up a wireless network.. I didn't care much for the tile system.. It seemed about as disorganized as my old Windows 3.1 system. Unless you know where to look, or what to type for, have fun trying to find it. Of course that was only 10 minutes. If I actually had a PC with it installed, I suppose I would get used to it. But that initial reaction makes me glad I got a laptop with Windows 7 on it. Maybe this new "Blue" update will fix Windows 8, maybe not. But with the bad reception Windows 8 has received for the PC market, I'm surprised more competitors aren't trying to step up to the plate with new operating systems. If a linux or google OS could run windows programs and come installed on PCs, then some of these companies should be stepping up to the plate and enter the market.. especially if Microsoft doesn't get its crap together.

After looking at some more videos the graphics do seem a bit weak. Maybe the trailer was made from an earlier build. The graphics don't really bother me tho. With my laptop's HD 3000 graphics chip, I'm used to playing all PC games at the absolute lowest graphics settings. I can only imagine how awesome some of my games actually look. I loved StarCraft 2, but even that game runs at around 15 FPS at times. I love the game play and story line so the graphics are all secondary for me. So Strider.. when other people are not in the game, the computer AI kicks in for the other players? Isn't that how Left 4 Dead 2 played? I've never played it before, have you? I'm wondering if there are any comparisons that could be made between the two games on a basic gameplay level. I'm setting this demo to download tonight. I'm going to try it out for myself this weekend.. I definitely want to try out that black hole weapon.

This person might not be a bot.. but its still spam. The basis of this topic has no question, is not seeking anyones opinions and has a link to a product that is being promoted.. spam. Wow.. our first spammer since switching off vB. Not bad considering when we were running vb we'd have sometimes have 4,000 registrations a day get denied by the anti spam software. It was usually the same damn bots coming back repeatedly with numerous IP#s.

The FDA still hasn't finalized its review of the most common antibacterial soap ingredient for over 40 years.. and on top of it, the chemical could cause hormone related issues? wtf.

The demo is out now for PS3 and Xbox 360 Gold members. This game is supposed to be a co-op shooter as opposed to a shooter with co-op gameplay. It looks good, I'll try out the demo this weekend. http://www.fusegame.com Click here to view the article

I'm looking forward to watching this. As long as its not a rip off of The Simpsons movie, then it should have potential.

Vikings - History Channel Original Series
Sledgstone replied to Sledgstone's topic in Movies, TV & Books
Its a shame they didn't know about Season 2 before the season 1 finale was already set in stone. I think my expectations were too high. I'm so used to huge dramatic cliff hangers for finales that I felt let down. Quite a bit did happen in that finale.. but if anything I'm thinking now that I wished they'd have focused the episode more on Lagertha and the plague in their village than emphasizing Ragnar sowing his seeds. Lagertha is a strong character and the one thing I'm looking forward to for season 2, is her kicking Ragnar to the curb and leaving him.- 39 replies

Aside from customization do cartel coins give an advantage? Such as buying more powerful weapons or elite abilities? I can understand experience boosting items. Those don't bother me as time = money for me, but more powerful weapons and skills would be cheating IMO.- 25 replies
