I've been using Avast Anti-Virus for a couple years now without incident and it even covered my butt a couple times I did something stupid without thinking. However, when I run http://speedtest.net I get an average download rate of 2300 kb/s and with Avast off 5000 kb/s. In the past that wasn't such a big deal, because I wasn't downloading or watching as many videos on the net as I do now. This is VERY annoying. Currently, I have Instant Messaging, Internet Mail, and Outlook/Exchange providers terminated. This leaves Network Shield, P2P Shield, Standard Shield, and Web Shield enabled. Even with all of these providers terminated, I'm barely hitting 2600 kb/s download. This is all with the VRDB (Virus Recovery Database) disabled. Am I missing a setting? Is this a known issue with Windows 2000 Professional machines. Kelene's running the same programs with the same settings including ZoneAlarm and is running nearly the same speed. Setting Suggestions? Should I try AVG? Anything?

Dean Kamen unveils Slingshot, the ultimate water regenerator
Mathias replied to Sledgstone's topic in The Bio Dome
But what about the aftertaste? Off Topic: We'll all be hiring s*** boys to refuel our converters. I don't want to be smelling that. "Excuse me sir, where would you like this s***?" "Out back. Can you check out the container, I think I've got a leak? Neighbors are starting to complain." "It's a s***ty job, but someone's got to do it. By the way sir, we're offering a new upgrade that will tie the unit in with the sewage line." "No thanks, I here it costs a s***load. Anything else." "The low end upgrade allows you to supply human s*** now." "You mean you weren't able to before?" "Nope." "S***, I think I know what my problem is." Sorry guys. That was too much fun and WAY off topic. The invention does sound great, but I think you get my point on fuel delivery. -
I completely agree. There was so much more that they could have done fighting off with the Ori rather than bringing back you know who. I never truly liked the Ori for the soul purpose that they were pretty much untouchable throughout the entire series until they received massive tech boost via Asgard's and Merlin's weapon. I liked the Goa'uld, because though they were high tech they could still be defeated. I'm surprised that Stargate would invest in building starships like the Prometheus without putting up a single space defense platform in orbit. That spells negligence. I still missed the whole reference to King Arthur being reborn. They did a couple episodes revolving around this concept leading us to believe that Vala's daughter Aria (sp?)would be the reincarnated female King Arthur. I was sorely disappointed with that turn of events, because I envisioned her to be on the side of good at first. Instead we get "King Arthur" fighting Morgan De Fay on the reverse sides. Anyone else want to take a stab at explaining that twist?

They actually went to Antarctica to film since Ba'al moved the Stargate there in the alternate time line. They end up walking along the tundra for a while before being saved by a Navy submarine. Great stuff! Interestingly, they weren't allowed to leave the camp without a specialist to defend them from the very territorial polar bears. As far as I know no polar bears were injured in the endeavor.

WD Button Manager is how it reads, though I haven't used it yet. WD Anywhere Backup is an Evaluation Version. It automatically backs up selected folders from my computer to the external hard drive. I can schedule the backups or I think you can let it backup whenever it detects a change. Once the initial backup is finished it copies files over only for those files that changed. You have the option of encrypting the files or leaving them as is. Either way you can retrieve the files through the software package or access the files directly if you didn't encrypt them. It doesn't image the computer, so I would need Acronis or something else for that. For $30 it's not a bad deal if you forget to copy files over a lot. I store all of my vital files in one large folder, but I'd rather not copy the whole folder each time I made a bunch of downloads. I'm testing it now, so I'll see if it's useful. The external hard drive was preset for a MAC. I have Windows, so the hard drive needed reformatted in a Window's compatible format such as FAT32 or NTFS. I chose the NTFS format. Of course, once the hard drive was formatted properly for a Windows machine, I had to reinstall the software since everything was lost during the format.

I bought the Western Digital 720GB hard drive. It's preset for a MAC, so I'm currently reformatting the hard drive as Windows NTFS. I've downloaded the Windows version of the preset MAC software. I'll install the software after the hard drive is setup.

I'm looking into getting a large external hard drive to store family images and home videos. Of course some downloaded vids just compound the memory requirement. I also want to keep images of my computers as they have been acting up a little lately (children putting poker chips in 3.5" drives so computer thinks there's a disk to boot from doesn't help any). 720 GB should keep me in the clear for the next decade with ease. http://reviews.cnet.com/hard-drives/freeagent-desktop-hard-drive/4505-3186_7-32740275.html FreeAgent Desktop - hard drive - 750 GB - Hi-Speed USB http://reviews.cnet.com/hard-drives/my-book-essential-edition/4505-3186_7-32640294.html?tag=prod.txt.1 My Book Essential Edition 2.0 WDH1U7500 - hard drive - 750 GB - Hi-Speed USB I'm thinking about getting the My Book Western Digital on sale at Best Buy for $154.99. I'm a little iffy about the 1 year warranty vs. Seagate's FreeAgent 5 year warranty. The WD also sounds a little faster. Seagate cons were a couple bad hard drives and their poor customer service. Which external hard drive would you suggest? Different deal? Keep in mind I want to keep it around $150 or less.

Actually, it was all a joke. I'm just playfully mocking a few unfortunate souls who have mentioned the term fanboy in almost every other post for the past week or two. No offense meant, just pointing and laughing at other's expense in a nice way. Bwahaha.

The term fanboyism and its many iterations have been abused to death. In fact, this forum has redefined the term so many times it has lost its meaning. Stop the insanity!

Mother's Day should be for the mothers!!!!

You're the mother, like duh. -
I'm allergic to something from all the seasons including dust, so I have no relief. Generic over-the-counter version of Clairton from Krogers or Meijers helps most of the time. Allergy shots for 5 years have reduced my reactions in half.

Sounds like it's free and in the clear. Still banking it. I could use the boost in the savings account and already spent a modest portion of my income tax return on a new stove and dishwasher.

Now how does that make me? Ouch. Happy birthday ancientclan!

Yet, that's exactly what my stimulus package notification said. The stimulus package is a rebate off next years income tax return. However, as noted on this yahoo thread, there appears to be a one time tax cut next year to offset this amount. Meaning, if you normally have an average return of $500, then you'll have an average return of $500 next year regardless of the stimulus package. I'm still banking the check. The wording of it all has confused many and I'm still not sure what to believe. Come on, it's the IRS and they still get taxes wrong. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080322194549AAZNjZ1

Put it in the bank, because the stimulus package is actually just a loan from next years income tax return that we have to pay back at that time.

Congratulations! Have your little girl start practicing to help care for the little boy. Ask her to get diapers for her little dolls and such. She might just be a mommy's little helper.

I just don't know where to start...
Mathias replied to HKofsesshoumaru's topic in Rants and Raves / Issues
When you're married, your spouse's problems are your problems and vice versa. That doesn't mean you can fix those problems or even help with them. The burden of those problems effect you both as you have mentioned earlier. The rest of Goku's advice is sound. I'd also recommend writing or typing a daily journal. You could use your personal blog on ancientclan for this very purpose. Writing and talking with others to get the issues off your chest may not resolve the issue, but it does feel better to share what's on your mind. Did you feel better after your rant above? If so, you know what I have said is true. -
I want to eat there!
