Which is easier? Trignometry or Math for Liberal Arts?
Zepling replied to slippers's topic in Rants and Raves / Issues
I took Math for Liberal Arts. Ummm, it was OK. I took it because I was more interested in learning about how the electoral college worked than learning more algebra. I was only in it for a month or so before I was kicked out. I didn't know you had to get a C in Intermediate Algebra before moving on. I thought a D could cut it. Haha, silly. -
I want to say that I signed the petition and am appalled by the many people on YouTube (I was looking for videos relating to the recent struggles in Tibet) calling his Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama a liar and a TERRORIST. That's ridiculous. They even go so far as to blame him for Tibet's horrible feudal history from before China's occupation. He was only a youth when he was coronatted in 1950! China began it's occupation in 1951! He should not be blamed for that at all. He is also criticized for "wanting to get back to the good ole' feudal days." I want to know where he ever said that he wanted to go back to slavery and such? Where and when did he say such things? Incredible.

Most of the grocery stores around here either do not offer paper or don't want to bother asking if I want paper or plastic. One time I asked if I could get paper and the bagger rolled her eyes at me! SOOOOOORRRRY. Raley's (sp?) has good paper bags with strong handles. I usually use plastic. But I reuse them for little trash cans, lunches, etc.

I can't believe he never tried to help her. He could have done something!

I watched it. It was way too tame. They could have done so much more with those subjects.

It's sad to watch people deteriorate. Too bad his work as AG won't be remembered.

When I was in high school, there was this kid who used to carry around a guitar case all the time called himself a musician. I was curious and asked to see his guitar one day...turns out it was a Guitar Hero controller.

I've seen that episode. As always, South Park is hilarious. ADD and ADHD, from what I've been told by my local community college's Learning Center, are biological/chemical imbalances in the brain, not processing deficits or wiring problems. They are not under the same umbrella as Learning Disabilities. I was just 'diagnosed' with a Learning Disability (they don't require medicine or anything, thankfully). But yes, ADD/ADHD is overly diagnosed. My little brother was diagnosed with ADHD when he was little, but we're just finding out now that what he has is actually a Learning Disability. Doctors need to stop being so friggen quick to give meds and should get to know the kid a little more. Maybe different Learning Specialists and doctors don't see eye-to-eye on LDs and ADD/ADHD classify them differently since it is a controversial subject.

ADD and ADHD are not Learning Disabilities.

I'm not going to be happy if I get dragged to see this movie.

My sentiments exactly. It's sad that the power of the "super-veto" is the glue that holds the UN together. I think the UN needs a complete overhaul, but to leave it would be disastrous. http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2007/09/22/paul-time-for-us-to-leave-un/ We don't need the UN but if used and participated in properly, it would be extremely helpful to keep nations peaceful. Especially third world and developing nations. Unfortunately, nothing is perfect and corruption is everywhere, not to sound like a conspiracy nut. In an ideal world, the UN would actually be as effective as it is supposed to be. The US needs to stop treating the UN like a bastard stepchild every time they make a decision that we don't like. But why would we stop treating them in such a way when we hold so much power? The whole system is disillusioning. The Constitution will never stop being undermined because people figure that a document which is 219 (?) years old is no longer applicable to recent policies and politics. It's not a good attitude to have, but that's how the law makers of today think (in general). In the beginning of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Bush tried to say that the Espionage Act still applies in times of war. The government of today picks and chooses which old laws still apply so long as it benefits them. I want to be a history major. I have been reading about the subject since I could pick up a book, but I find that the more I read (over the years), the more disgusted I get.

A beef I have with Ron Paul is that he wants the US to leave the UN. I do not support that idea because I believe that in order for the organizations like the UN to work, it needs support and to be taken seriously. The US does not take the UN seriously or head their warnings just because we do not like what they have to say. I believe that to contribute to the cause of peace, means to seriously engage in an equal partnership with other nations in the UN. This isn't an issue with Paul, but it's another thing that irks me: I think that the winners of WW2 shouldn't have special vetoing privileges that the other members are not alloted. (Russia, China, U.S., U.K., France)

If winner was to take all, I'm not sure if I would bother voting at all. California is VERY predictable. For instance, it was obvious Hillary was going to win our state. She has the Latino vote and they make up around 50% of our population here. Hypothetically speaking, if I were to vote Obama even though I'm sure he'd lose--I just wasted my vote. I would see no point in voting if that were the case. But I think winner takes all is okay for small states. For big ones though, I think splitting the delegates is more fair.

The reason the public (separate from the media) doesn't pay attention to Ron Paul is because he wants to privatize a lot of government programs which would be detrimental to many people's well-being. His level of trust in corporate America and free market are higher than most voter's. I can't speak for the rest of the country on this but Ron Paul would have been better off if he had not been so far to the right. I say this because, close to where I live, 4 polling stations ran out (completely out) of democratic ballots just in one county. Those polls had to stay open until 10pm because there were still many people in line when they ran out of ballots. Also, other counties were dangerously close to running out of democratic ballots. This is attributed to the fact that independents and decline-to-state voters (like myself) came out to vote in record-breaking numbers, much much higher than expected. Since Ron Paul was not eligible to get votes from Indies and DTS voters, he should have tried to reach out to moderate or conservative democrats (I swear they exist!). If Ron Paul was not so far to the right, I believe some registered Democrats would have voted for him. He already has a few people to the left (foreign policy) and to the right (abortion, free market, small government). I think Ron Paul's fate was decided, fairly, by the people. By and large, they don't want the type of change he's offering. It's too extreme. Whether or not the media treated him fairly is a whole other debate.

I agree, the sequels are really annoying. I think what's worse than reality/dating show sequels are the reunion shows. WTF? Those are pointless.

Now that I think of it, Nip/Tuck is lacking in quality this year. So is Law & Order: SVU. History Detectives is a good show (if you can figure out when it's on). Hmmmm, thinking. . . Project Runway sucks this year as well. I can't stand all the shows that are popular right now. I guess this has been a crappy year for TV.

Why would they stop making these shows? They have record breaking ratings. Hell, I hate reality TV and I watch them. They're just fun guilty-pleasures. These shows are meant to be disgusting and trashy, yet still entertaining. They must never been taken seriously. I think these shows are just meant for us to laugh at the people who chose to be on these shows in order to begin acting/singing careers (New York) and create ridiculous characters (New York again). It really isn't about the relationships that are won or lost. Yes, I've thought about this. . . a lot. For example, take A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. That show was meant to be a rip of off the Flav and New York shows. It didn't even make an effort to SEEM genuine. In fact, the producers told Tila that she had to pick a guy, not a girl. So with that knowledge, the show was even more meaningless than the others. Completely pointless. I couldn't bring myself to watch that show. I cant stand Tila Tequila and MTV (and I already knew that she was going to pick a guy, surprise ruined). On a more positive note, New York and Tailor Made are still together. It may not last ong between them but they've gotten this far.

Leno and all of the other talk show hosts (except Carson) mention the writer's strike in every episode out of support for the WGA. They also do it to kill time. I still watch Conan, writers or not. The writers really aren't asking for too much, I hope they strike a deal soon.

My favorite thing about this movie is that it didn't try to explain what the monster was. I loved that you only saw that the little camera filmed. I thought that made the story way more interesting. To be honest, I wouldn't have been interested in seeing it if it had been filmed like a "normal" movie.

I absolutely loved about the first hour of this movie. I didn't think it was slow at all. I thought it was totally necessary to show the audience what day to day life would be like in his situation. But once the big emotional scene passed, I think the movie went down hill. I felt like the movie was trying too hard to cram as much stuff into the last half that it turned into chaos--and not in a good way. I was very disappointed by the ending. But overall, I would say it was a good movie.

Well, it's popular because it the most girl-friendly gundam series to be shown on Cartoon Network. By making it girl-friendly, the anime's audience doubled. I loved Wing when it was on CN (Nanashi was my favorite). Then I went through a period where I started to think that it was a horrible anime because I felt like it was incomplete. I didn't think it explained itself well-enough. Now I can't wait to watch it again. I believe it is an anime that people have to watch at least twice in order to at least appreciate it because for people who have not seen nor are interested in watching any other Gundam series, it is good. In order to prepare me for re-watching it (I have to be able to answer the onslaught of questions and analyze characters from my boyfriend because I am going to watch it with him), I have been reading some essays that analyze the characters and it dawned on me that the characters are waaay more complex than some people give them credit for. Anyway, I didn't mean to start defending the series. I'm just excited about watching it again.
