Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is a short story in The Jungle Book (1894) by Rudyard Kipling about the adventures of a valiant young mongoose. An English family, who have moved to a bungalow in the British Sugauli (former British sp. Segowlee) cantonment in Bihar State, India, discover a young mongoose half drowned from a storm and decide to keep it as a pet. The young mongoose, called Rikki-Tikki, soon finds himself confronted by two dangerous, murderous cobras, Nag (the word is Hindi for "cobra") and his even more dangerous mate Nagaina, who had the run of the garden while the house was unoccupied. After that first encounter with the cobras, Rikki's first true battle is with Karait, a dust brown snakeling who threatens the boy (Teddy). Although Rikki is inexperienced and the snake, because of its deadly venom and small size, is an even more dangerous foe than a cobra, the mongoose defeats him. At Nagaina's urging, Nag plans to kill the human family to get the house empty again so they can have free run of its garden. She also reminds him that their eggs would hatch soon (as they might the next day) and that their children will need room and quiet. Nag goes to the bathroom to wait to kill the "big man", and goes to sleep while waiting. Rikki grabs Nag by the head above the hood. Nag thrashes about furiously, and the noise wakes the man, who fires both barrels of a shotgun into Nag, blowing him in two pieces and almost hitting Rikki. Nag is thrown on the rubbish heap, where Nagaina mourns for him and vows vengeance. Rikki, well aware of the threat, enlists a tailor bird to distract Nagaina while he searches for her eggs. However, while he finds and destroys most of the brood, Nagaina finds the family at the dinner table and threatens to kill the family's son with her poisonous bite. Alerted to the crisis, Rikki races to his family with the last egg. Once there, Rikki claims he killed Nag himself while showing the egg to distract Nagaina long enough for the man to pull the boy to safety. Nagaina snatches the egg and flees to her hole while Rikki pursues her inside. The underground fight is not described, but after an agonizingly long wait, Rikki comes out of the hole in triumph having killed Nagaina. With that victory, Rikki spends the rest of his days defending the family garden where no snake would dare enter. A 25 minute animated version which first aired on CBS on January 9, 1975 was directed by Chuck Jones and narrated by Orson Welles. Family Home Entertainment has released this version of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi on both VHS and DVD formats. 0qhBxv7r5gg d3sanpjm6cI 0qhBxv7r5gg

See ya Bud Anheuser-Busch's board has accepted a $52 million takeover offer from Belgian brewer InBev, creating the world's largest brewer, the two companies announced late Sunday evening. The company will be called Anheuser-Busch InBev, and InBev CEO Carlos Brito will be the CEO of the combined company. "Together, Anheuser-Busch and InBev will accomplish much more than each can on its own," Brito told reporters in a conference call Monday morning. The announcement ends a month of hostility between the brewer of Budweiser and InBev, which traded lawsuits when InBev tried to oust A-B's board. "We always tried to engage with the Anheuser-Busch board, and now as a combined team, we want to look forward as opposed to looking backward," Brito says. The directors of the combined company will be comprised of InBev's board, A-B President and CEO August Busch IV and one other current or former member of A-B's board. The North American headquarters for the combined company will be St. Louis, and Brito promised to keep all 12 of A-B's U.S. breweries open. When asked about the potential for job cuts in St. Louis and elsewhere, Brito skirted the question by pointing out that InBev has added 12,000 jobs in the last three years, and that A-B's plan to cut costs and and offer employees early retirement will still be executed. Budweiser, Stella Artois and Beck's will become the company's leading global brands, using InBev's existing distribution network, according to a combined statement from the company. Reports surfaced Friday that A-B's board was poised to accept the offer from InBev, which sweetened its offer by $5 to $70 a share in an effort to seal a friendly deal. InBev, brewer of Stella Artois, unveiled its original $46.3 billion, $65-a-share offer in June, a number the brewer of Budweiser dismissed as insultingly low. InBev then sought to oust the American company's board and replace it with its own slate, while A-B accused InBev of misleading shareholders about its financial backing and blasted it for having operations in Cuba. "When I look at other American companies that have done this [extended global reach] before, like McDonald's, Pepsi, Frito-Lays," Brito says, "I feel very excited about how we have the footprint, knowledge of the market and America in a bottle." St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. (NYSE: BUD), through its Anheuser-Busch Inc. subsidiary, is the leading domestic brewer, holding a 48.5 percent share of U.S. beer sales. The company also manufactures and recycles aluminum cans and operates theme parks.

Bush lifts executive ban on offshore drilling
Ladywriter replied to DeathscytheX's topic in News Column
Godamnit! worthless gesture it will do nothing Big Oil's cronies in Congress are using high gas prices as an excuse for this greedy land grab, and they plan to make this a major campaign issue. Even some of our pro-environment friends in Congress are feeling pressure to support drilling legislation. But renowned oil businessman T. Boone Pickens is publicly broadcasting a different message: "I've been an oilman all my life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of." * America simply can't drill its way out of this problem. Our supply (less than 3% of world oil reserves) can't possibly keep up with our demand (25% of world oil consumption). A few drops of oil, up to a decade away from making it to market, cannot alleviate our pain at the pump. * There are almost 70 million acres of proven reserves in Big Oil's possession where absolutely no drilling is taking place. As long as gas prices continue to rise, so does the value of the reserves they're sitting on. Guess I better get emailing my reps again. -

FISA Bill's Real Target: What Remains of Our Open Society

Breaking News. This from the desk of Florida Congressman Robert Wexler, one of the co-sponsors of the 35 articles of impeachment introduced by Rep. Dennis Kucinich: "Capitol Hill is buzzing today with major developments regarding our campaign for impeachment hearings for President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney. Just today, in what could be described as a perfect impeachment storm: "After stating unequivocally that impeachment "is off the table," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stated to CBS News today that the House Judiciary Committee should address the issues that Rep. Kucinich's has raised in his impeachment resolution.... This issue now reaches far beyond the substance of the Judiciary Committee's original inquiry regarding the firing of US Attorneys for political purposes. The crisis at hand relates to our most fundamental laws and of our Constitution. It is, in many ways, more serious than the Constitutional crisis surrounding Watergate." Nancy Pelosi's comments reflect the growing pressure of impeachment supporters on all elected officials and the heat from Cindy Sheehan's courageous campaign to unseat her in the coming November elections. Cindy has made the impeachment of Bush, and Pelosi's previous refusal to allow impeachment to proceed, a centerpiece of her campaign. Send an email today to support new impeachment resolution Congress may vote by Tuesday, July 15, on another impeachment resolution offered by Rep. Dennis Kucinich on July 10, 2008. This is a separate resolution from the 35-Articles of Impeachment that was introduced on June 9, 2008. The new resolution is a single article of impeachment that accuses Bush of lying to Congress about Iraq's so-called Weapons of Mass Destruction in order to obtain Congressional Authorization for the use of military force against Iraq. Congress passed the authorization in October 2002 and Bush then used it to launch an unprovoked war of aggression and subsequent occupation of Iraq. You can read the new impeachment resolution by clicking this link. http://www.impeachbush.org/site/R?i=JdKfzThBu5j8kTVI4lnVcA.. Visit the sites for the organizations against this legislation. The ACLU wants the bill challenged in court. Leading up to this vote in the senate I was emailing my senators at least once a week, participated in every e campaign I could find that opposed this shit. I've already signed 2 petitions to challenge this bill and it isn't even a week old yet. I do feel like something is working tho (I'll take that 1/2 inch of progress). Both of my senators voted no on FISA. I think they felt the pressure and heard the voices of the ppl on NY.

Revolution March in D.C., July 12, 2008 Posted on July 12, 2008 by Chris There was basically a complete blackout of this huge event by the mainstream media—we’re left to faithful bloggers and independent news sources. The march was reportedly spoken of on CNN who apparently claimed the event was merely Ron Paul speaking to a crowd of “500 to 800 people.” Well, look at the images for yourself, there were thousands of people on the ground marching in support of Ron Paul, liberty, and the restoration of the Republic. Numbers from D.C. estimate 5,000 to 20,000 people present. A thread for our videos, articles and other stuff about yesterday's march and the RPR in general. Naomi Wolf 2fGc6auB4j8 H.R. 5122, also known as the John Warner National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2007 was a bill passed in the United States Congress on September 30, 2006 and signed by President George W. Bush on October 17, 2006. H.R. 5122 includes: $500 billion allocated to the military and defense related activities for fiscal year 2007 Expansion of the President's power to declare martial law under revisions to the Insurrection Act, and take charge of United States National Guard troops without state governor authorization when public order has been lost and the state and its constituted authorities cannot enforce the law (repealed as of 2008); The elimination of the position of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction as of October 1, 2007, currently held by Republican lawyer Stuart Bowen, which is in charge of auditing expenditures in Iraq, transitioning Inspector General responsibilities to the Inspector General offices in the departments of State and Defense, now that the Coalition Provisional Authority is dissolved and Iraq is now a sovereign nation.

funny you mention Gaara cuz I get the feeling that Naruto/Pain will be another Naruto/Gaara fight. fighting and talking and pain will change for the better all of the sudden. There aint no way Naruto can beat Pain alone, he would need eyes to see thru Pain's tricks, either Neji/Hinata or Sasuke himself; at least ya would think. Bad guys on their way to Konoha, Naruto gonna leave(?) Konoha to train, does it mean Konoha=about done for? Be careful where ya step or you'll fall into a plot hole X'D
