  1. CITIZENS CAMPAIGN FOR THE ENVIRONMENT VICTORY ALERT Water Bottles Now Included in NY & CT Bottle Bills Victory! The expanded Bottle Bill has been signed into law and is in effect. You can now return water bottles for a 5 cent refund. Connecticut’s Bottle Bill went into effect October 1, 2009, and New York’s expanded bottle law takes effect on October 31. By adding non-carbonated beverage bottles to the list of bottles available for 5 cent redemption, recycling rates of water bottles are expected to increase significantly. In New York and Connecticut, this new expanded Bottle Bill will help generate revenue for the states. Previously, when deposits were not reclaimed by consumers, the unclaimed bottle deposit money was returned to the bottlers and distributors. Now, these unclaimed nickels will return to the states and provide a direct benefit to the public. The unclaimed nickels are expected to provide additional millions to NY and an estimated $12 million to CT each year. The original Bottle Bill was one of the most successful pieces of environmental legislation and substantially reduced litter and increased recycling. Many things have changed in the decades since states first adopted bottle bills. In the early 1980’s, carbonated and malt beverages comprised the lion’s share of the convenience beverage market. Now, the largest growing sector of the convenience beverage industry consists of bottled water, tea, and sports drinks. CCE and our partners have worked for years to expand the Bottle Bill to capture these beverages. Recycling saves money, creates jobs, saves energy, and fights climate change. CCE thanks you for your support in securing the adoption of these overdue changes to the existing bottle bills. With public support, we look forward to working to address the growing trend of water bottle use and decrease the amount of bottles that wind up in landfills. Thank you for all that you do. Together we make a difference. YOUR FRIENDS AT CCE

  10. every child develops a little bit differently, hits the mile stones at different times. Sounds kinda lame but check out that Cafe Mom site. I'm sure ya can find people discussing their teething children over there. It might put yer mind at ease seeing others are going through it too. PLEASE!!!!! If ya don't have health insurance for the little guy see if you qualify for your states Child Health Plus program through medicade/ DSS. It covers doctor, dental, eye, emergency room and wellness checkups w yer regular ped, any ordered testing and covers Rx. Having no health insurance on a kid is like playing Russian roulette but having only 1 chamber missing the bullet. They get sick, break bones yada yada yada. Your counties DSS site should have the # for ya to call. Do not brush his new teeth w fluoride toothpaste! At this point cleaning them with a washcloth will prolly be okay but if you want to start brushing pick up a kiddie non fluoride toothpaste. It will have little bear or something on the packaging. Swallowing fluoride toothpaste can make lil ones very sick.

  18. Measure would make it easier for government to seize ailing Wall St. firms Too big to fail is a misleading concept over all. ex The planet earth is too big to fail, but species go extinct anyway. ex GM is too big to fail, but dropped 2 car companies, their workers lost jobs health insurance etc.... If companies are going to become so massive their failure screws over a nations entire economy.... we have 2 choices. Either we create legislation that prevents a co from becoming that big in the first place or we create legislation that requires them to run their cos in a self sustaining and stable way ie no bs scheming that will prevent them and their fail from screwing over everyone. GM has provided us with a textbook case of bullshitery~ Would they have become too big blah blah if they hadn't bought up as much of their competition as they could? Ummmmm........ probably not. Because of GM's greedy desire to try and become a monopoly we've now lost Pontiac and Saturn and all the jobs that came along with manufacturing those cars. It would be nice if we could prevent this bullshit from happening in the first place without restricting prosperous growth. Perhaps strict regulations can take care of this shit mess, if they're enforced that is.
