as an avid gardener I couldn't wait for spring. unfortunately this year I really should have waited. unseasonably warm temps fooled many into planting tender seedlings early, and then winter came back with a frigin vengeance. I outright lost a few plants, including tubers in the ground... boy was I pissed off it went from unseasonably warm to unseasonably cold for a few weeks and in general spring was completely fucked up here in central NY. it was like having 2 Aprils and a skip right to June. between the weather from last fall and this spring I decided to move my seasons back a month, and it looks like I'm rite on. Here it is Oct 22 and the predicted high temp for today is 80, as in hot as in summer like. if I go with my push the seasons back a month this is 'Spet 22' but even then 80 is still unseasonably warm. So it's 80 here... but Denver got smacked with 7 inches of snow yesterday... http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/14388423/detail.html wtf I read an article this morning about how the climate change has effected fall foliage http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21417255/ and I have to agree. I have a few key trees I use to gague the fall. My maple by the house still has plenty of green leaves telling me its not quite fall yet, but its frigin October I still have tropical plants thriving outside; again wtf I think my biggest wtf moment came a couple of yrs ago when poor old Harold Bronson's trailer got lifted by a twister. yes, a tornado in Motville wtf. this area is hill and valley, not exactly tornado alley but the severity of the storms we have been getting just keeps getting worse. I think it was Valentines day we got burried under a couple of feet of snow. Snow removal was a huge issue in this state last winter and went way over budget >.< I know it aint just me goin wtf. I encourage everybody to share their unusual weather stories

HOUSTON - Waste Management Inc., the nation's largest garbage hauler and landfill operator, will spend hundreds of millions of dollars over the next dozen years to make its operations more environmentally friendly, CEO David Steiner announced Thursday. The company plans to increase its energy production from waste, buy more fuel-efficient vehicles and more than double the amount of recyclable material it processes, among other initiatives. Steiner said the "green" strategy will also boost Waste Management's bottom line. The company reported $13.4 billion in revenue in 2006. "I don't look at it as how much it's going to cost," said Steiner, stopping short of putting a price tag on the plan. "I look at it as how much it's going to return." Primarily through burning waste and using methane gas-to-electricity technology Waste Management now creates enough energy to power roughly 1 million homes a year. By 2020, it expects to double that output. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21255085/ "I don't look at it as how much it's going to cost, I look at it as how much it's going to return." Now thats the right way to get things done

TOPEKA, Kan. - A utility company and state lawmakers are vowing to challenge the rejection of a permit for two coal-fired power plants in Kansas where the state's top environmental regulator cited emissions of carbon dioxide. The ruling could have an impact across the country and was hailed as a victory by environmental groups that warn the plants contribute dangerously to global warming. “As far as I know, this is the first time an air permit for a coal-fired power plant has been denied based on concerns about the impact of carbon dioxide emissions on human health and the environment,” Nick Persampieri, an attorney in Denver for the environmental group Earthjustice, said Friday. “We think it is a big deal.” The case will be used as a precedent elsewhere, he predicted. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21378777/ good. its about time somebody grew some nads and told these polluters NO!

MALIBU, Calif. - Nearly a dozen wildfires driven by powerful Santa Ana winds spread across Southern California on Sunday, killing one person near San Diego, destroying several homes and a church in celebrity-laden Malibu, and forcing an entire community to evacuate. The Malibu fire was among at least 10 blazes that burned more than 35,000 acres, stretching from north of Santa Barbara to San Diego, as hot weather and hurricane-strength winds marked the height of the traditional wildfire season. Late Sunday, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in seven Southern California counties. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21405632/ outta control

well, I'm about to watch a movie but here's a few quick things to chew on. right now green energy works at a small level(its mostly a money issue, as in they aint got none ), a town can use green power for heat/electric which takes a slice away from big fossil companies like Exxon. The more communities that turn to green sources of power the more money big corps lose and the less control they have over everything from politics to consumer spending. The big corps like Exxon Mobil cant stay on top w/o keeping us dependent on their products. Our independence from fossil fuels scares the turds out of them. if America goes green, their years of setting record breaking profits are over unless they change! the govts need to stop giving tax breaks to polluting companies, they need to tax carbon emissions to pressure the big polluters into cleaning up and finding alternative energy to do business. turning green opens up the door for the return of the 'mom and pop' shops the money can stay in the communities the clean energy is powering instead of ending up as some fat cat's multi million dollar retirement/severance package >.< running into hang ups dont help matters DSKEix5ssng Pp7meduoPKc fwasgPfsv4I Dy3PuUDt0mo and some news fron NYC QHwt5taRsas

XPZlYmCqALY The corporate braumeisters of Anheuser-Busch have let genetically engineered rice contaminate their Budweiser beer, independent laboratory testing has revealed. Tests show rice used in Anheuser-Busch's east coast US breweries is contaminated with genetically engineered rice varieties outlawed in most of the world. Budweiser is an international brand exported to 60 countries worldwide. Anheuser-Busch controls 50 percent of the US beer market and is the largest single purchaser of rice in America. They buy between a staggering six and ten percent of the entire annual US rice harvest. The contamination In 2006, over 30 percent of the US long grain rice crop was contaminated by multiple strains of genetically engineered (GE) rice. It is still not clear how this happened. We do know that these GE rice strains, called "Liberty Link", came from Germany's Bayer CropScience. The plot thickened when it was revealed the GE rice that eventually ended up in Anheuser-Busch's brewing mix was supposed to be confined to test sites only. This GE rice was never cultivated or marketed for sale. The US Department of Agriculture retroactively approved the use of the Liberty Link rice strains, but their sale is still outlawed in most of the world. The contamination wreaked havoc with US rice farmers and processors. It is estimated in a class action lawsuit filed against Bayer that 63 percent of the US rice industry’s export trade was disrupted. Orders and contracts were cancelled, products were removed from shelves, shipments were halted and recalls ordered. Testing and certification requirements were imposed. There was extensive brand damage and a large loss of market share for US producers. Anheuser-Busch's responsibility Although Anheuser-Busch did not cause the genetic contamination of the rice, the company has a responsibility to their customers. It should have refused to purchase or use any rice contaminated by the GE strains. Tests conducted for Greenpeace show Anheuser-Busch let the ball drop. Anheuser-Busch has made a commitment to use only GE free ingredients at its brewery in Wuhan, China, but has to date refused to make the same commitment to American and European consumers. Whassup with that?! Greenpeace is calling on the makers of Budweiser, Anheuser-Busch: A) To make a global commitment - for itself, its partners and subsidiaries - that it will be GE free in all its beer ingredients. And To actively oppose the growing of GE rice including current fields in Arkansas being cultivated by Bayer CropScience. Send a letter Ask wassup?! Sign the open letter to Budweiser.http://www.greenpeace.org/international/news/budweiser-rice-contamination071008 a whole nother reason to get beer shitz ne? greaaaaat >.<
