About three-quarters of the Earth’s fresh water is held in ice sheets and mountain glaciers, so recognizing glacial changes is crucial to monitoring water supplies. “Glaciers serve as a natural regulator of regional water supplies,” said Kargel. During periods of warm weather and intense sunlight, such as during dry seasons and droughts, glaciers melt vigorously and provide a water source for the surrounding ecosystems and communities. Conversely, during cold, rainy seasons, glaciers produce less meltwater. “Glacier changes, especially recent melting, can affect agriculture, drinking water supplies, hydroelectric power, transportation, tourism, coastlines, and ecological habitats,” he added. In areas with very large glaciers, increased melting could result in temporary increases in meltwater available for human use. But as the world’s glaciers continue to melt and shrink, over time there will be less water to sustain the communities that have come to depend on that meltwater. Excessive glacial melt can also result in increased hazards or disasters for communities living near glaciers. “Glaciers don’t always behave nicely. They’re a type of natural reservoir with a temper, in some cases. Some glaciers have a nasty habit of storing up large amounts of water and then releasing it suddenly in a massive melt or calving episode, which may involve floods, landslides, or avalanches,” said Kargel. http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Study/GLIMS/ In 2002 an Antarctic ice shelf that was 200 metres thick and had a surface area of 3,250 square kilometres has broken apart in less than a month. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/1880566.stm The animation at the bottom, put the top of your cursor on the edge of Larsen B in Jan and just let the thing cycle through Not bad enough? The glaciers of Glacier National Park, like glaciers all over the world, are shrinking. Slowly, inch by inch, warming temperatures are melting them away. On any given day, or any given year, the changes are not dramatic. But over decades, the impact rising temperatures have had upon the park is truly awesome. If nothing is done to curb global warming, by the year 2030 Park scientists predict there may not be a single glacier left in Glacier National Park. Some of the Park's best known glaciers have already shrunk by more than half. The number of glaciers in the park has dropped from an estimated 150 in 1850 to approximately 35 today. Since 1968, as the warming trend has worsened, and the human influence on it been more sharply defined, many of the smaller glaciers have disappeared entirely. http://www.sierraclub.org/globalwarming/articles/glacier.asp Its not just here or in the artic The Pasterze, Austria's longest glacier, was about 2 kilometers longer in the 19th C. but is now completely out of sight from this overlook on the Grossglockner High Road. The Margaritzen-Strausee, a dammed artificial lake, now is in the place where the glacier terminus was in 1875. Measurements of the Pasterze began in 1889 and it has been pulling back the entire time, in approximate step with regional temperatures that have been increasing. The glacier is now about eight Km long and loses about 15 meters per year. However in 2003 the Pasterze decreased 30 meters in length and 6.5 meters in thickness. 1875 image, photographer unknown, is courtesy H. Slupetzky, from the University of Salzburg archives. I worry for Ussop and Nami cuz they're just 'normal' ppl compared to their nakama. The thing is, Ussop can take a wayyyyy worse beating then Nami can. They can't lose Nami, she's way to vauable to the crews survival. Without the navigator they would be pretty screwed. She IS the brain of that crew. Ussop and the Merry were sort of a package deal and now Merry is gone (or is she!!!!) I'm worried about Robin more then those two though. She's the newest addition to their nakama; I just hope she isn't the 'red shirt ensign from Star Treck' ya kin? >.< She went through all of Sky Isl stuff with them, but Vivi went through a lot w/ the crew too and she's history. Does a pirate ship really need a historian? No probably not but maybe hopfully Luffy himself actually needs her for something Roger/One Piece related. If that bastard really wanted to staight up kill Robin he coulda kicked her into the sea while she's cuffed. I hope Frankie doesnt provoke him into doing something bad to her. 10 minutes until the Buster Call. How the flippin fuck are they all getting out of there?! Marines running like mutherfuckers- are there any ships left on the island? Is it possible Iceberg sent some help from Water 7 behind Rocketman? Has the storm died down enough for safe sailing? And if they do escape the island is it safe to go back to Water 7 and get a new ship? I'm hoping Iceberg has something up his sleeve. He must have some kind of plan just in case this day came doesn't he? I dunno how much good he can do being all busted up and Galley La at EL. I'm sure he wants to save Frankie and all their dudes.

At this point I'm partially writing this out of spite X'D Stephen King's Bag of Bones is roughly 230,000 words. I just wanna compete with my hero on a wordy/good story level. I might not have a bajillion readers but it has its own cute little fan base. The point is I'm writing like him. Like he told me to do in On Writing and I am. -
I just want the cool shit in the manga animated now! >.<

It wouldn't be impossable for me to sit here and tell you all I know about climate change and the earth, it would just take an insane amount of time to type it all out There are so many sorces of information on the net and if you're off to college in the fall I highly reccomend an enviro science class. Short answer is Yes the earth naturally moves through cycles of warmer and colder over thousands of years; a blink of an eye in geoligical time. The problem is damage to the atmosphere and enviroment caused by human activity is excellerating the warming process. What's wrong with it being warm right? Glacial and polar ice is melting way faster then it would ever in any natural situation. It's not a problem limited to the poles and the fauna there. Too much fresh water in the salty oceans disrupts the natural conveyer belt that warms the northern hemisphere- where most of the worlds food is grown. Imagine Iowa or one of those big time farming states with no summer growing season. Getting hungry yet? Rising sea levels and worsening storms will force hundreds of millions of people and animals away from costal areas. take a peek http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount_classics/aninconvenienttruth/trailer/ Learn a little on your down time. Google rapid climate change, learn some stuff about the oceans and the effects we're feeling now due to global warming, check out enviromentalist and govt sites. After a 15 year campaigne of misinformation fed to us by big oil and our govt the truth and the facts are finally reaching the American ppl. Educate yourself about this shit now my young voter
