  3. article The water table in the west is about tapped to its maximum. It's more then a not enough rain problem, glaciers have receded and vanished. A non existent glacier cannot provide you with run off water yo. Unfortunately for ppl concerned about marine life, desalination is the only way to secure the water supply. No rain + no melting ice = no water. No water = no agriculture and unsanitary living conditions (aside from dehydration and death that occurs after a few days without drinking)

  7. I twisted in the wind for a while over this damn yard. I push mow it all w/ a 22' deck, its a lot of work and walking to mow. Its a lot of walking to go all the way out back to the gardens. Last fall I decided to put in 2 new show beds in front of the garden so old ppl (parents n such) don't have to walk so far for plants. I was gonna let some garden and yard go back to nature ... well fuck that I want my godamn yard and all of my gardens and they're all (including the new) full anyway. The latest thing is digging up stones from the old barn foundation (barn was original to the teasel farm and demolished about 4 years ago) and using them to line the beds I WILL bring under control....

  10. The thing is we don't really have the means to slash emissions as much as we need to just yet. We've got the carbon cap and trade/sequester thing going on. Factories, govt buildings etc are going to be easier to retool then getting a bajillion gas operated vehicles off the road; don't forget recreational vehicles and tractors; shit even yer lawnmower.... Even if the whole world stopped selling gas powered crap today it would still be ten years or more we could phase all this junk out. The problem is as long as these shenanigans go on the deeper the hole we're digging for all the chitlins that come next and next and next. We cant stop the earth changing but we can mitigate the damage. We're at a point where we have to focus on pushing away from the coast and or calling Holland for engineers to build some shits to protect our cities that can withstand noreasters and at least a 5 hurricane. Storm surge, the severity of storms, tornadoes popping up in some really fuckin weird places, extreme temperatures, increase in thunder storms- lateral winds and tornado conditions, exceedingly high precipitation events, drought and desertification. We have to deal with trying to reduce the damage instead of continuously adding to the problem. Think of it this way; places that don't usually get snow freak out (by our standards) when they get some. Schools close, ppl dunno how to drive in it even the plows >.< you get it. See, that kinda stuff is gonna happen more and more frequently. Winter especially has freaked the fuck out in the US. Our schools closed more for drastically low temps then shitty roads this year. We fucking froze hard and "January Thaw" was about a month late. When it snowed the majority of the time it was exceedinly high precipitation events. Syracuse took the golden Snowball award with 149.6 inches of snow recorded at the airport this season. The snow just buried us because it didn't get warm enough to melt any of the fucking shit. Cities n towns had it hauled off by the truckload. It felt like a godamn ice age
  11. I just love Joan Rivers I'm so old I can remember her subbing for Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show I think her charity is fantastic. Its comfort and hope and help for the dieing. I was moved when she called her charity and they all came down to help. I think her event was more fun. Also an excellent job w/ the branding. Only thing she forgot was frames displaying her charity. She also blew Annie the fuck away in the closing arguments video. She touched hearts with that piece. Even if she hadn't won the contest her charity still won. Its small and grass roots but now ppl know about it and can kick some cash that way. And when I'm 75 years old I'll say whatever I bloody well please too.
  12. In the last 60 days, nearly 100,000 of our supporters signed petitions to Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar urging him to rescind Bush's 11th-hour special polar bear rule. Thank you for all your help to get the word out to your networks and for signing the petition. I'm writing to let you know that today Salazar confirmed our worst fears for his tenure as Secretary of the Interior -- he announced that he will adopt Bush's polar bear extinction plan, a "special rule" sharply limiting protections for the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act, as his own. Salazar's decision to keep the Bush rule is a terrible blow to polar bears and the future of their Arctic habitat. When Salazar responded last week to requests from you, as well as scientists, legal experts, and lawmakers around the country to revoke Bush's nationwide Endangered Species Act regulations, we knew his job was only half done. And his decision today cynically denies the polar bear the full protections it needs to survive. The 60-day opportunity approved by Congress for Salazar to revoke the Bush extinction plan with the stroke of a pen has passed, but we're not giving up. The Center for Biological Diversity is already challenging the polar bear extinction plan in court. We will now ask the judge in that case to throw out this illogical and illegal rule, and will continue to pressure the Obama administration to use our nation's most successful law for the protection of plants and animals on the brink of extinction to fully protect the polar bear. In the face of this bad news I also want to let you know how impressed we have been by the dedication and actions of our supporters to speak out for polar bears and the Endangered Species Act in the last two months. Thank you for your extraordinary efforts. We will continue to count on your support in the months to come. And you can count on us to keep you updated as our legal case develops. Sincerely, Kieran Suckling Executive Director Center for Biological Diversity P.S. For more information on Salazar's decision today to keep Bush's special polar bear extinction plan, check out our press release: http://www.biologicaldiversity.org/news/press_releases/2009/esa-regulations-05-08-2009.html don't bum out its only a battle not the whole war >.<

  14. Dear ACLU Supporter, Unbelievably, there's a growing chorus to let the Bush torture team get off scot-free. A draft report from the Justice Department's Office of Professional Responsibility reportedly concludes that the lawyers who drafted the "torture memos" were legally sanctioning illegal interrogation methods. It asserts that they committed lapses of judgment but claims that they should not be prosecuted. And now, according to the Washington Post, former Bush administration officials have launched a behind-the-scenes campaign to get the Justice Department to soften the ethics report even further. We can't hide the truth about torture, and enforcing the law is not a political decision. There must a thorough investigation, and if crimes have been committed, our legal system demands accountability. Please write a letter to the editor of your local paper, and let them know that no one is above the law. You can also help get the word out by writing a blog post or commenting on an article about these developments online. http://action.aclu.org/site/R?i=ntDo7uNauJPOdF4-_elpRg.. The ACLU and hundreds of thousands of Americans continue to demand a complete criminal investigation into Bush administration officials who authorized detainee abuse and torture. Attorney General Holder has said that he intends to follow the facts and the law wherever they lead. We need to make sure he follows through and knows that the American public is behind him. It would be a dangerous precedent to conclude that lawyers who played a critical role in an illegal program are immune from criminal investigations. No one is above the law. Write a letter to the editor of your local paper, and demand respect for the rule of law. http://action.aclu.org/site/R?i=9cDqUXBa9y2vTzZryNtBpQ.. Please also consider writing a blog post or commenting on an article about these developments online. Thanks for all you do. Sincerely, Anthony D. Romero Executive Director ACLU
  15. DO YOU KNOW WHY MOTHER'S DAY WAS STARTED? By Jodie Evans, The Women's Media Center Mother's Day isn't about Hallmark and Teleflora -- it's a call for women to gather for peace. http://www.alternet.org/reproductivejustice/139897/do_you_know_why_mother%27s_day_was_started/ If you are a mother you don't have time for a day of rest. This planet is a fucking mess and its YOUR responsibility to make it better for the children you selfishly bring in to the world. You chose to bring more humans into this world; taking proper care of them involves a hell of a lot more then diapers or dinner. If you can't handle the task of trying to better the world then don't fucking breed. We did not inherit this land from our ancestors we are borrowing it from our children. Happy Mother's Day to all mothers who are really doing the job. Breeders can fuck off today.

  19. I think that many govts in anticipation of new natural deadly virus kick cash and privilege to big pharma that lobbies the shit outta everyone from the family practitioner to the senator. I think they develop stuff that can potentially kill people. I think different virus are "tested" on an unknowing public all of the time. Some of it is the whole get this so you dont get something worse but some virus have a higher mortality rate based on factors like age, region, economic status etc. I think this strain of HIN1 is most likely a few years old; it was contained and thusly covered up by the Bush admin. It spreads fast in unsanitary and crowded places and without some costly pattoned big pharma remedy you're in hell with it. Obama won't be a hero unless it turns very dedly this winter, kills over 30,000 americans this winter then is contained and nearly irradicated. This does however further the cause for health care reform.
