Next generation Xbox will be revealed on May 21
Strider Hiryu replied to Sledgstone's topic in Video Games
The first good news I've heard come out of the gaming sector in awhile. I might just upgrade and stick with Xbox now (might being the keyword, funding being my main concern now). -

Meh, COD lost me with MW2 and I officially stopped caring after BO1. Unless this does something that either takes COD back to COD4 multiplayer wise or does something to drastically change the gameplay I'll pass on it (then again it seems I'll most likely be passing and the next gen consoles if MS does what everyone says they're going to do).

No Nintendo Press Conference at E3 hurts which more?
Strider Hiryu replied to Myk JL's topic in Video Games
Who cares about Battlefield 4? Honestly 3 wasn't that great (yeah I'm jaded, sue me). Honestly it was only a matter of time. Nintendo has be drowning in bad decisions for the last few years (I mean lets face it, the Wii U is a flop and I doubt it'll even bring in the number of sales they're hoping for this year). I still support Nintendo but only on the handheld market (I love my DS, sadly I don't get to play it that often anymore) and honestly that's what they should of been focusing on for the last few years instead of throwing money into the console market. Nintendo will feel this more then E3 since in the last few years other companies have been taking press conference time (like Ubisoft) so they'll just replace them with whatever company wants it more and has the money to throw at the E3 committee. The last few years I've gotten used to watching E3 for the new game reveals and honestly that's what the conference should be about. I could care less about Microsoft's or Sony's sales figures for the year, what they plan to do on the social media front with their consoles, the new consoles, etc. I'm more interested in whats going on with games and the developers that make them (then again GDC is for the developer side of things anyway). -
Defiance - Current Episode Discussion
Strider Hiryu replied to Sledgstone's topic in Movies, TV & Books
Gah, now I want to watch GG play a shooter. I'm sure it full of entertainment. Heh, I didn't even make the connection but I'm pretty sure that was a Gulanite crystal Nolan had. Makes sense since it gave power to that terra-spire so they could get the terrasphere out of it. -

Strider Hiryu replied to Sledgstone's topic in Movies, TV & Books
They're harvesting Gulanite, from the website: "Gulanite is a valuable ore that was originally found on one of the planets of the Votanis System. The extreme pressure at the center of the gas giant Gula compressed a number of elements into diamond-like crystals – gulanite. When Arkfall sent the wreckage of the alien fleet crashing to Earth, large quantities of gulanite were embedded into the planet’s crust. Gulanite has become a staple in the new frontier, since everyone has a use for it. The Votanis Collective needs it to power their “Votech” while human nations like the Earth Republic have created new hybrid engines that also use this more efficient fuel source. Frontier settlers can strike it rich if they discover a large vein of the stuff, or if they stumble upon a particularly lucrative arkfall. But refining gulanite requires advanced Votan technology, forcing mining towns to trade their raw ore for processed fuel. Gulanite can be processed into a variety of powerful, clean-burning fuels, including the ubiquitous petrohol – a staple fuel for rollers and runners. Some of these methods require extremely advanced technology, while others give off enough pollution to offset the benefits of the resulting clean-burning product. Gulanite is a bright blue crystal, which gives off a soft glow. Gulanite caverns are instantly recognizable, and are known for their beauty." That's what made Rafe rich and a major contributor to the city. What I gathered from the talk Rafe and Nolan had the old city is extremely dangerous and no one goes down there (don't know if it's due to Hellbugs or what). They might go down there for Gulanite but I doubt they go for anything else (I mean there really is no use for nuclear material anymore so the reactor is out of question though I'm sure they do get some of their building material from down there). Next episode looks good, especially since we get to see these much talked about Hellbugs. Don't know if I like this direction for Irisa though with these "visions", but we'll have to wait and see exactly where they're going to take this. -

While the episode was okay I think it fell short of the first (then again the first was the premier so it had to be big). Old St. Louis was pretty cool and it was nice they explained how it happened. I liked the exchange between Nolan and Rafe (was pretty funny about his father). If Irisa keeps getting herself in trouble it ought to get more interesting. I don't know what it is but she is currently my favorite character of this show (plus I'd really like to know more about what happened to her in the past). -

Considering one of the achievements/trophies for the game is to cross the Golden Gate Bridge I'm pretty sure the game takes place in the US and around the San Fransisco area (or whats left of it, the timeline states that Los Angeles is now an archipeligo so who knows how much of California is left). That actually doesn't look to bad. I had heard mixed things about the game but from that video it actually looks kind of fun. A co-worker/friend and I were discussing picking it up and playing it together on PC but with my internet problems it'd be a waste for me. Fricken bug looks hella tough to kill, I can understand the need for a group of more then 20 people to take something that big down. Heh, I'm pretty sure Defiance would be wiped off the map if a Hellion attacked or if any other stages besides a skitterling attacked. I mean if they didn't have that terrasphere of Nolan's the Volge would of taken them out (even with the energy shield). -

Considering the amount of money they invested into a game and the show I highly doubt it'll get cancelled for quite awhile yet, especially considering the premier had 2.7 million viewers (the best a SyFy show has done since 2006 (when Eureka debuted)). I give it at least 3 seasons before they start talking about shelving it (and that's only if the game starts loosing players and the show loses a considerable amount of viewers). Give it a shot Kite, like I said I watched it out of spite because of the marketing campaign and actually ended up somewhat enjoying it. It's no Sanctuary (which I'm still pissed about) but it's better then most of the other crap on the network. I'm assuming Hellbug spawning for Arkfalls is just for the game to make the Arkfall more challenging and to make it feel like you deserve the loot you receive. I'm suspecting they cut that out of the show or at least didn't want to have it on the first Arkfall (I mean Nolan and Irisa were by themselves and if one of the bigger Hellbugs came about I'm pretty sure they'd of had a hard time putting it down. Add on top of that the Spirit Riders and that would of probably been the end of the show). Who knows but I'm quite sure they'll be part of the show at some point, either as part of the next Arkfall or as the next big threat to attack Defiance. We can only wait and see. -

They most likely assumed that everyone would play the game and do the research on the back story before the show aired, they're not the first ones to do this and most likely won't be the last. I'm pretty sure they'll be bringing up some of this stuff as the series progresses or at least the stuff the pertains to why Earth as it is now (like the Pale Wars and the events that led up to them). Or they'll go the route you mentioned and use it as prequel material for a new series, TV special, or a movie (I mean they made a tie in game, it's only a matter of time till they make a movie). Going by my understanding of what I read on the site I'm pretty sure we'll see plenty of Hellbugs as the series progresses (especially considering Defiance is on it's own with no connections to the Earth Republic or the Votanis Collective, so I'm sure they do need to get whatever fuel they don't trade for on their own). They're basically everywhere and one of the major dangers in the badlands, then again how often do you fight them in the game? That might be a good way to judge how often they'll appear in the show (pending on how often the main characters actually go outside of Defiance). -

Strider Hiryu replied to Sledgstone's topic in Movies, TV & Books
What a coincidence. Lets just hope, if Defiance lives up to it's hype, they don't go and cancel it like they did with all their other successful shows (like Eureka). The weapons are quite nice. I'm extremely interested in the Cold Fire weapons. I honestly hope they go into more depth about them at some point because those weapons can do some serious damage. I honestly don't think the shield would of done more then probably slow the Volge down. If you noticed before the control tower was destroyed it was quite a ways above the shield so one shot from that walking artillery/tank thingy would of taken it out easily, even if it could of been used offensively. I just found it funny that Nolan just happened to have gotten his hands on something that would basically save the day in the end at the beginning of the episode. Coincidence? I honestly do wish they'd of made Defiance about they're travels but then it wouldn't be called Defiance would it? Also you notice how Nolan just happened to be one of the "Defiant few". Good lord the coincidences in this show. -
So yeah, I really hate North Dakota. Got over 15 inches of snow this weekend and damn near got my car stuck going to work last night. I can't wait till summer

Lucky? Snow sucks. Don't get me wrong I love winter because I love cold weather but snow can just disappear for all I care. Snow just makes everything 10x harder to do.

Defiance - Current Episode Discussion
Strider Hiryu replied to Sledgstone's topic in Movies, TV & Books
I watched it out of spite due to the freaking viral commercial campaign (gah, all those commercials were annoying the hell out of me). Honestly I don't know what to think yet. It's better then I thought it'd be (and I was expecting it to be utter crap mind you). It has a lot of potential, I'll give it that. Don't know if I like the cliche fighting between the two major financial contributors to Defiance but it did add a little bit of intrigue to the episode. I'm honestly going to keep watching it now because I like Nolan and Irisa, they made the episode for me with their banter and Irisa's penchant for holding knives to people's throats. -
Syfy Announces ‘Ringworld’, 'Helix' and more.
Strider Hiryu replied to Sledgstone's topic in Movies, TV & Books
Except Smackdown is not SyFy original programming. They just got the rights to show it on their network hence why I don't consider it their TV show. Wrestling is crappy no matter how you look at it on any network so honestly it's a bad example. -

Strider Hiryu replied to Sledgstone's topic in Movies, TV & Books
Honestly anytime SyFy announces a new TV project I get very worried about it because if its good or remotely successful it gets cancelled after a few seasons (ex. Sanctuary and Alphas) or it's crappy and goes on forever (no real examples come to mind atm). Though I do admit Ringworld and Childhood's End sound rather interesting. -

Xbox 720 to require always on internet connection?
Strider Hiryu replied to Sledgstone's topic in Video Games
The thing with Starcraft 2 is it only requires a connection initially, if you're dc'd in single player campaign you can continue to play without the ability to gain achievements (something I honestly don't know why Blizzard put into the game, achievements do nothing for gameplay). Diablo III on the other hand does require a constant internet connection to even play it (even if your anti-social like me and only want to play it yourself) because you need to connect to their servers to even load your character (thank you Blizz for a retarded idea, should of just stuck with the Diablo 2 model). If MS was shooting for something like SC2's model then I doubt people would have the problem they're having but all leaked news is pointing toward needing that connection to do anything. That's a bad business model no matter how you look at it and is going to alienate their loyal fan base. I've supported the Xbox for 6 years now and didn't even raise a fuss when MS decided to tack another $10 onto their yearly Gold subscription case but this is just something I can't support. MS just likes to shoot themselves in the foot and then wonder why everyone gets angry with them. -
Xbox 720 to require always on internet connection?
Strider Hiryu replied to Sledgstone's topic in Video Games
This is a major issue for those of us that don't have reliable internet and I understand the rage because I'm one of those people (its the reason I quit playing Diablo 3 and won't go back to playing it until my ISP gets there issues with internet connectivity resolved). If the "Durango" (I refuse to call it the 720 until its officially announced) requires a constant internet connection I will not buy it and will cancel my XBL Gold subscription the minute that's announced (I rarely play MP games anymore due to my internet problems, sucks when your having an awesome match in Halo 4 only to be disconnected because your internet is acting like a little bitch again). To force single player games or games with a single player campaign to these standards is retarded. For games that rely solely on MP to sell this is fine but honestly forcing games (like RPG's) to this standard is asking for backlash from the gaming community (Gamespot users (like myself) have been in a rage the last few days since that one Microsoft employee told us the deal with it, it's actually spawned a new meme). This might be the year I go back to Sony or just not continue with console gaming (or gaming) in general. -
Jimmy Fallon taking over The Tonight Show
Strider Hiryu replied to Sledgstone's topic in Movies, TV & Books
He'll have it until they decide he isn't doing a good job and make Leno come back (just like with Conan). Like they said on the Today show yesterday morning I'm pretty sure Leno will be back on the air eventually with another show so I don't think much of him leaving. Honestly he's been on TV long enough, let him do what he wants to do (like play with his cars). I'll always be a Letterman fan, I started watching him way back in grade school and have always found him to be funny (I guess I just like his sense of humor). Sadly I haven't watched it in years due to working when he's on and really not watching TV anymore. I watch Conan occasionally before work if nothing else is on but I honestly don't find him funny (though the clueless gamer videos are quite funny) I honestly do not understand why he has a show (then again I don't understand why Kimmel or Fallon have one either).- 2 replies

I believe I said Disney would be the death of Star Wars, probably not here but I do remember saying it. It starts with the games and it'll soon trickle into bad movies, I can see it now. Gah, I was looking forward to 1313.

What Earbuds / Headphones do you use?
Strider Hiryu replied to Sledgstone's topic in Science & Technology
These are the only ones of the canal style I've used with the exception of a cheaper Sony version made out of hard plastic (very uncomfortable, they don't make that type anymore). These ones are made of a soft rubber so they are quite comfortable for long periods of use (they do get irritating after awhile but only if you're doing something that causes the cord to become tugged repeatedly). They funnel the music into your ears pretty well and cut out most outside noise (not all of it but since I wear these at work I need to be able to hear whats going on around me) for a much better sound (the bass booster also helps). As with anything the quality of the music rip effects the sound quality (I've noticed anything less the 320 kbps sounds like crap with these and can barely be heard unless you have the volume all the way up).- 16 replies

I was thinking of going to the S3 from my Bionic in June when my upgrade comes due so I might go to the S4. All depends on price, if it's too expensive I'll probably just go to the Droid DNA. Don't know if I like that eye tracking thing, might be more of a hassle then it's worth.
