every HD i have around me is a WD...the one i have in my lil linux comp is about...hmm 6 years old without a single problem and 1 or 2 of my externals is around 4 years old...they last...thats why they have a short warranty....just like Strider i swear by the WD brand and the MyBooks are a good deal themselves

yeah best thing to do is like goku said...after reinstall do updates until you cant get anymore then start installing your shit....and if you do get vista dont get anything lower then 64bit premium cause the lesser ones are just a overglorified XP just make sure your computers specs are up to par with its recommended specs....its not as bad as goku makes it out to be cause not everyone uses a computer for things he does
