Tried the Monster Hunter Wold beta after the guys I played Destiny with kept hyping it up... eh. Its not for me. The controls are funky, and the explanation of what I was suppose to be doing wasn't very good. I just beat down a monster until it died? I thought I was suppose to be capturing it? I was expecting a finishing move prompt, or a QTE, for a death blow, but it just seemed anti-climatic. Then it sent me to the "Coming Jan 2018, would you like to Pre-Order?" in which I said no and got sent back to the main menu. At this point I knew I wasn't going to try the more difficult quests if I have to go through all that each time, rather staying in the game world and picking another quest that way. I never played a Monster Hunter game before, I always thought they looked neat, but playing it myself left me uninspired.

I didn't know about the training hall. I was getting pissed because the legend up top with the moves kept changing and disappearing when I drew my weapon. So I basically mashed triangle a bunch with a little circle and dodge until I won. The UI is pretty terrible. I might try another round with a different weapon.

I'll try out this beta later today if i get the time. It looks decent at least.

I went straight for the Training Hall (it's like the third option on the list) when I loaded it up. I tried out almost all the melee weapons before I was even confident enough to do the first hunt (though all you attack is barrels, they don't let you practice against actual monsters). Sadly I used a weapon that I didn't try out in the Training Hall, the Feather Blade. Luckily it was extremely easy to figure out (though I'm still a little foggy on the whole summon insects to attack thing). Believe me though the combos are pretty much smash Triangle, hit Circle when needed (depending on weapon type), hit X to dodge, and R2 to switch modes/use special attacks (again depending on weapon, some weapons change what they are with R2).
