  1. Looks very CQCish. It will do great for range challanged characters.
  2. I can understand why they took the multiplayer aspect out of this game. I remember reading 2 years ago how when you paused or signed off, your ship and character would be stationed where you left and anyone else could come and kill you. That was a major concern for me. But right now I could destroy a lot of other players in a dog fight with the ship I currently have. And I got it for free. For a game based on randomness I've been given an amazing hand I could I only dream of in an MMO. I've landed on four planets now that have just abundant wealth laying around. I'm currently on a planet that has spore sacs everywhere. I'm hauling in a half million units every trip to the TP. I've already maxed out my exosuit inventory slots, and now I can just save up for a 48 slot ship with all its upgrades. I was doing the beacon spam to find ships one slot better and just repairing the necessities for flight, but now I can just gain money fast for the final purchase. I haven't even scratched the surface of the universe. The game has too many design exploits to have multiplayer. I have my jet pack maxed to when sentinels get mad, I can boost jump away until they lose me and deactivate. If it wasn't boring, i could have had 100s of millions of units on the 3-4th planet I landed on. Once I get the ship I need, I'll visit a few more atlas interfaces and start heading towards the center. I can see how that guy that paid $1200 for the leaked copy beat it in 30 hours. He probably did the same thing I am doing. While the game is fun for what it is, I am starting to get bored doing the same thing on every planet. So I'm going to get my ship and speed toward the center to see what is there.
  3. Kudos to DICE for a different map. Alpha testers won't have a significant map knowledge advantage over beta testers. That sandstorm will def put a hamper on alpha snipers too that already have a good feel on how it works.
  4. Assignment: "In one round get a melee kill, weapon kill, and vehicle destruction while on a horse."
  5. I'm currently on a planet with t-rex looking creatures. I have to kill them of their near mining resources because they are aggressive and hit pretty hard.
  6. It's def not for everyone. I'd say my favorite thing to do now it talk to Aliens now that I know a bit of their dialect. I had one that wanted me to punch him, so I did and he punched me back and gave me a multi-tool upgrade. A lot of the interactions can be generic, but every once in a while you get a good one.
  7. I just found out Overwatch competitive rewards are based on your season high and not current standing. I would have been more aggressive if I would have known. -_-;

Not only that, but it will give people that prefer that format something to hone their skills in between seasons. Plus competitive matches are longer so you gain more XP overall, even if its a double blow out. As fun as it is to crush the other team quickly in QP, you generally get a laughable PoTG, and little XP. XD

That would be amazing but I doubt it'll happen. QP competitive mode would be the equivilant of solo queue for GW2 ranked. They'll never implement it because it would make the queues alot longer for the regular ranked mode. Even with Overwatch's massive user base a QP competitive mode would suck away a good chunk of users out of the matchmaking for regular competitive. As soon as the game starts to get a 3-5 minute queue for a competitive match people will assume the game is dying and move onto another game or go for QP only.

Nah, it wouldn't change anything. COD has multiple game modes and they've never had any issues. Overwatch has a COD sized player base right now as well. I remember one of the CODs had 2 different TDMs and it didn't effect either one. GW2 suffers because of its casual nature. Overwatch is built around PVP.

  8. I've played this game for about 10 hours so far. Its hard to discribe what this game is. Its not an action game, it not a story driven game. Its a game you can play and relax. It's like a mix of Myst and Minecraft with a sprinkle of what Destiny should have been. You start out on a random planet with a random starter ship. Apparently I was lucky enough to have a 14 slot starter, my friend only had 11 slots on his. Inventory management is a nightmare at first. You're ship is small, you suit only holds about 7-8 slots in which 2-3 are already taken up by technologies. Any tech you craft takes up a slot, any upgrade to that tech takes another slot. At first you don't really even need any upgrades. Space is precious. It steadily gets better as you have money. Making money is probably the most vital part of the early game. inventory upgrades can be found on planets and have to be purchased from drop pods. each upgrade goes up 10k units in price. I'm currently in the 30s and the last slot I bought cost me 220k units. Getting a new ship can be done in two ways. You can get lucky and find a crashed ship, or make an offer on a ship you see dock at a space station or landing pad. Making an offer seems to be the best way to go for more space, but its the most expensive way as well. The more wealth you obtain, the more expensive ships you tend to see land. A decent sized ship will cost you 2-5 million units. Finding a ship is free, you just need to obtain the resources to repair it. The drawback is that it seems to be tied to your current ship. I've confirmed it on reddit that ships you find will only differ 1-3 inventory slots... and thats +/-. Finding a ship with 3 more slots from your starter ship may be great, but plan on buying a ship, especially if you want to dogfight. Most of the game is spent exploring ambient landscapes and mining resources. Each planet can be vastly different in what elements they hold. Iron and Plutonium are the most common that can be found on every single planet. Other isotopes and elements can be scarce to non existent, or insanely abundant. I lucked out an found a planet where vortex cubes littered the ground. I made millions easily, while my friend found a planet where vortex cubes were on pedestals and the sentinels would attack if you took them... I eventually found a planet like this as well. When trying to carry all this wealth to sell, it can be cumbersome to turn a profit. Backtracking in his game is non existent. You can't make markers, and things are spread out erratically. The best way to go about keeping a TP marked is by not discovering it after you manage to ping it via another beacon. That way it stay on your map. Selling all valuables that you don't need is important because when you leave planets and travel in space, you can get scanned by pirates and then have to dogfight them. I'm pretty sure this is proced by having valuables on board... I've yet to be scanned when I've had nothing. Outside of mining resources and selling precious elements and treasures, you can find knowledge stones and alien ruins. These will teach you a word and sometimes reward you with a tech blueprint. As you learn more words, alien merchants jibberish become decoded depending on what they say. A lot of alien NPCs will say a line and you are presented with choices. Getting the right response rewards you with tech, resources, and standing with certain alien races. You can also scan and discover species of animals on each planet. Some planets present the opportunity to get 200-300k units for discovering all the species and logging them. The game does have a repetitive nature, and what little lore it has from ruin to ruin is interesting. The only difference is coming across the main goal of the game if you choose to follow it. (I'll leave that out due to spoilers). It's not for everyone, but I personally like it. Its different, and stress free. The movement speed is pretty slow outside of the ship, but thankfully there is a trick that helps yo move super fast on foot.
  9. I just hit the jackpot on No Man's Sky. I found a planet where 40k credit items litter the ground. I'm gonna have millions of credits soon. XD It will be worth the inventory hassle to ferry them back and forth to any TP I find.

I've gone from 400k to 3 million in a few hours of scavenging. XD I can no high roll someone for their ship at a space station and still have some left over.

  10. The human female idle animation post on the GW2 forum was finally locked by a mod, with no dev response. "It's run its course" apparently, more like they got tired of seeing it stay on page 1 for over a year. XD

XD It was only a matter of time before it was locked. I'm really surprised they let it go on as long as they did. Theres a good chance it'll come back as a new emote tho now that they're actually adding new ones.

  11. They're def killing it with overwatch. From the harsh stance on cheating that zero other games have done to the free post release content. (Hell, you only get banned for a week on The Division, you don't get banned at all on COD). Like I was telling Sledge, they game will have a longer life span than a normal shooter. With the many different characters the game has, it makes sense just to keep adding more, instead of pulling a street fighter and release the same game every year. You could make Overwatch 2, but people are going to want all their favorite characters back. Then you have to do a balancing act or old and new to avoid getting accused of recycling content.
  12. I never saw any ads for battleborn until after the beta was out. But what hurt it more is that it has virtually zero coverage. That hurts a game more than advertising tbh. I never saw anything on Kotaku, VG247, etc. There wasn't any hype. Someone dropped the ball in inviting the press to play the game and report on it. TV ads are probably the worst type these days with how low live viewership is. Ad blocker plus is also a hindrance. Coverage is the best advertisement. I couldn't tell you the last time I got interested in a game because of a commercial, I could tell you of a gaming mag ad that did before I could a TV ad.
  13. Ah, I didn't take the skill factor much into it, because I only saw 2 matches were the teams average were a point off, the rest were even. Me and a friend are only 3 points away from each other. The cap is within 50pts. So I imagine having more than one person in queue that started at different times can bring up more interesting matches. I don't think it gets really crazy until you get into the high 60s. I've seen people bitch about Genji being OP because the best players dominate with him in super high comp. Honestly that's the whole point of Genji, right? He def doesn't need a nerf on console. If you're that damn good with him, more power to you. I wouldn't be scared to play competitive. It offers a way to get rewards whether you're bad or good. Ranking up gives you a competition point, even if you get ranked down and go back up. I saw a 49 with Winston's gold weapon. That means he gained a rank 200+ times and he was only near 50. He probably started in the 30s and ranked up and down to 50. There is still incentive to play. I'd like to get better with Lucio, but damn I can't aim worth a shit with him. I'm so much better with Zen, that discord orb is so beastly. I was tearing apart all the tanks single handedly at some points. I faced up against a good zen player that kept me out of my suit pretty much the entire match when I was D.Va. But yeah, hes not a dedicated healer... although I've become pretty good at keeping people alive in quick play as long as they don't stray off too far. I'll probably always be a 50-60 rank player, but it wont take my enjoyment out of competitive play. I just want to end the next seasons in the 60s to get that sweet 200cp. In the beta i was only decent with Torb and Reinhardt. Since, I have expanded my resume. I never thought Junkrat would be my favorite character, but I'm absolutely massacring with him right now. I'm averaging 30-40+ elims a match. That mine will kill Genji in one direct hit. I've shut him down so many times during his Ult, and I've mastered shutting down the opposing junkrat's tire with it too. I also like to lure Reinhardt toward me until my mine gets behind his shield and BOOM. I still have mishaps with the jump that my friend gives me hell for. It's a running joke that I wish i could mine jump as good as I can double kill with it. It's just a matter of utilizing quick play. I use to have to rely on Torb when I started doing bad, his nerf is probably the best thing that happened to my level of skill. Torb is pretty bad right now on console, but damn I love when i get some of that armor as Winston, talk about super-tank. I'm trying to get into Roadhog, Lucio, and Zarya in quick play while I hone my skills with Zen. I'll probably stay away from Junkrat and only use him in competitive. Mercy has become really undervalued since her "buff seen as a nerf". Competitive mode could use more of her. A lot of my 10-15 kill streaks are because a spot on mercy player was keeping me alive. The biggest emotional roller coaster in this game is when everyone dies and we all get resurrected while the match is about to end with us holding the point down. But, damn its the best feeling in the world. I'll def jump on Zen or Zarya when someone I know is playing Mercy to provide her with the protective buff. For me, I prefer defending on sudden death, just because I feel like I don't have to rely on my teammates as much. I can prevent multiple people from capping a point better than I can solo cap, while half my team is hanging back fighting instead of pushing. It happens a lot less in competitive, but it still happens. King's Row is probably the worlds worst for this. I'll always go for Junkrat and D.Va on this map just so I can jump the wall and contest the point in hopes that my teammates will rush in. It never fails, once I contest the point the other team freaks and they all come charging at me forgetting about my entire team. I do this on Hanamura as well. I'll use Reaper on quick play to teleport into the room on the right sometimes. One of the funniest matches I had today was on Hanamura. When we capped A, the defending team kept fighting at A, I booked it to B and pretty much solo capped it. Edit: My mind is all over the place and its late.
  14. http://www.vg247.com/2016/08/08/2k-not-giving-up-on-battleborn-despite-poor-performance/ I fear Titanfall 2 is going to get caught just like this. This game was released too close to Overwatch. While they aren't the same game at all, Paragon has been f2p from the start and also was around at the same time. Way less games come out these days than a few years ago, there is literally zero excuse to try to compete with hypetrain games. If you're trying to create a new IP, don't come out near established series or games that have millions of more dollars in advertisement.
  15. A friend got me to play competitive matches tonight even though I was hesitant to drop below 50. Of course we lost the first match and I dropped to 49 immediately. We play about 4-5 matches, in which I got up to 52. I'm not quite sure how the rank system works. I know I lost or gained a whole level every time I played a match. I'm assuming you lose a lot if you lose lopsidedly and vice-versa. Each match went to sudden death... so 4-5 competitive matches are like 10-15 quick play matches. It's def time consuming, heart wrenching, and adrenaline pumping. Once the next season starts, I'll probably play this a lot more than quick play. The only thing is, you're drawn to play with your best characters. The meta is real. Junkrat, D.Va, Zenyatta, 76, Genji/Hanzo, Lucio, (optional), seem to be the common make up. I stuck with Junk, D.Va, Zen, and Winston. No Torb, No Bastion, or any snipers were to be found on console competitive. A lot more double healer, and double/triple tank set ups depending on the game mode. Sudden death flips a virtual coin and depending on the game mode, you get screwed on one side. Escort, the advantage goes to to the attackers. You only have to make one check point, which is generally the second checkpoint. If you're team is attacking first and you don't make it to the end, it's even worse. The other team gets their final check point moved to where they stopped you the previous round, shortening their distance goal. Hybrid and Assault, advantage goes to defenders. You only get 1:30 to cap the point. Going heave on defense and tanks make's it pretty easy to keep people out and you don't have hardly any time to build up an ult. Assault is the most intense because you can play 4 rounds where both teams cap both points forcing the sudden death. Only capping one or no point is devastating. Control is probably the most balanced. Its best of 5. You can play a total of 4 rounds in which can lead to a 2-2 tie forcing a 5th round. The skill level is a lot higher because everyone is sticking with what they are best with. Quick play is a lot more appreciated for taking a break now. I've seen a lot of clutch Mercy plays tonight saving my team from certain disaster.
  16. Yeah, with characters that have AoE damage, shields, self heals, and temp invulnerability, They still have a good advantage, but its mostly against small hit box characters. The advantage is there, but like I said, its not as huge as it would be in another FPS where everyone's hitbox and HP is the same. Blizz will patch it, and if they can't they'll have that company handover its code, because they don't have the legal power or money to face a lawsuit. From what I've seen, Blizzard has taken exploits and cheating more serious than any FPS ever. It's really helped me get even more into this game. The dedication they've put into this game should set and example for everyone else with FPS series out on the market. I played all my placement matches, and I got ranked at 50. I went 5-5. Twice someone left in the middle of the match when we were winning and one of those were a loss... I dont understand why you'd leave. And the game gives you a minute to rejoin (though that should be extended to 2-3min IMO) Its the end of the season so I might just stick at 50 and take the points I get and try next season. I enjoyed competitive play a lot more, people played more seriously. It was nice not to have two snipers on my team, ever... I did rely on Junkrat too heavily though. I need to branch out. When my team starts sucking it up and can't push, I tend to panic swap.... but here is a nice 11 kill run.
  17. Great, now java updates feature an automatic download of Amazon Assist that you have to uncheck the box with. -_-; Thats as annoying as Flash wanting to install McAfee every update.

I hate that double install BS. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't always checked to auto install.
