We're going with vBulletin

Recommended Posts

After much consideration, we have decided to stick with vBulletin for our forum software. (AC Fest attendees found this out last weekend. :P) We took advantage of the pre-sale discount a couple weeks ago. That way we could still re-sale the license if we decided to switch at a later date if we weren't impressed with what vB 4.0 looks like. Over the past week, vBulletin has a revealed it's CMS software and as of last night, the beta has become available to 4.0 license holders. Which means that we'll be installing a test board sometime this weekend and begin work on converting our themes in order of popularity as discussed in this topic: [ame=http://forums.ancientclan.com/showthread.php?t=9083]New vBulletin layout to screw over our themes, need your feedback! - Ancient Clan Forums[/ame]

Admins, and mods will have access to the beta.

If any other members would like to help me test things out on the test board/site, please send me a pm.

Testing started last Sunday on our test site. The CMS, forums and blog are up and everything upgraded correctly. vB is still on beta 3 and there are some bugs in it. Once a more stable beta or alpha version comes out, and we get some themes up, (good god the white default theme annoys me) we'll probably upgrade the main site/forums. Someone is working on an arcade mod for vb 4 atm. Hopefully it'll be available soon.

Just an update. I'm waiting for vBulletin to release their next beta. Hopefully, it will resolve the templating issues going on that is preventing us from working on converting our themes. -_-

In the mean time tho, vbulletin modders have been working like crazy to adapt popular mods that we use. Pretty much every mod we use is either currently working on vb4 (like the arcade) or is currently in development to work with vb4 (like the post thanks and chatbox).

Welcome to my new Recipe Blog. I will use this blog to post all my new recipes. All of my old recipes can be found in my original blog by following this link:
      http://www.ancientclan.com/search/?tags=Recipe
Instead of posting any more recipes in my original blog, I have created this one so I can create more specific categories for the recipes themselves. Pork, Chicken, Beef, Italian, Mexican, BBQ, Grilled, etc. As well as using tags, I will have many specific categories just for my blog and some recipes will fall into multiple categories. Tags are useful as well, and will allow us to view everyone's recipes across all blogs on this site.
I recommend that anyone that wishes to make their own recipe blog to please type the tag "Recipe" without the quotes, in the tag field of blog entries so they can show up in the combined blog Recipe tag link.
(Edited to fix link to recipes)

I was looking at the vbulletin website the other day and they made an announcement about the newest version of vb they're working on, version 4.0. Aside from a 3.8x or 3.9 version thats supposed to come out in a couple weeks, the new 4.0 version is probably going to come out in a 6 months to a year (I base this on vb staff's inability to never announce anything anywhere near its actual release date). But it is interesting nonetheless, because version 4.0 is a complete rewrite of the forum code. But the nice thing, is that they announced that they are working with current code modders to make sure existing mods will directly work with the release of the new version. Which means we should be able to keep the arcade, mood feature, vbadvanced on the homepage, etc. even after a major upgrade like this. Very nice.

The new vbulletin should be released in a beta version sometime in the second quarter of 2009.

They are finally going to make a new default style, they're also going to make a CMS (content management system), so we can finally change the main ancientclan.com site into something more than a splash page while keeping it integrated into the forums. Yay! And the other really nice thing is that all the attachment problems will finally be fixed. Once they have the new attachment system finished, whenever we upload any image to our blog, the forums or our personal albums, they'll all be integrated. So if we upload a pic to the forum as an attachment it'll be available in our albums as well. And if you upload pics to your album, you can easily attach them into a post by clicking a little button and then choosing any pics from any of your albums to be inserted into any of your posts.
And it also sounds like they're going to integrate the blog, albums and social groups into the overall forum too.
Everything should be alot spiffier. I'm guessing they'll release the beta around april or may.

One of the people at vBulletin posted a blog entry showing what we should expect the new default vb style to look like. Seeing as me n lady like to make new styles based off the vbulletin default one, it should change the overall look of the forums. Click this link for some pics of what it'll look like:
